    • An image pickup apparatus comprising: a charge storage member (CML) being movable; a photo-charge conversion unit comprising a photoconductive layer member (PCL) having a transparent electrode (Et), an electrode (E), and means (Vc) for applying an electric field between said transparent electrode (Et) and said electrode (E), said photo-charge conversion unit opposing said charge storage member; and means for focussing an optical image of an object through said transparent electrode (Et) onto an image focussing surface of said photo-charge conversion unit via a taking lens, and for forming an electric charge image corresponding to said optical image of the object on said charge storage member. The image pickup apparatus may further comprises reading means for reading said electric charge image corresponding to said optical image and generating an electrical signal according to said electric charge image by opposing said charge storage member.
