    • This application provides a random access method and apparatus. The method includes: receiving, by a terminal, first indication information transmitted by a network device, where the first indication information is used to indicate a random access configuration index; determining, by the terminal, a random access resource based on the random access configuration index; determining, based on an association relationship between the random access resource and a downlink signal, a random access resource corresponding to the downlink signal; and transmitting a random access preamble to the network device based on the random access resource corresponding to the downlink signal. In this way, the random access resource is determined based on the random access configuration index indicated by the network device, and then the random access resource corresponding to the downlink signal is further determined based on the association relationship between the downlink signal and the random access resource. Therefore, a problem that the terminal blindly tries a random access resource when transmitting the random access preamble is avoided, and the network device side can receive the random access preamble on the random access resource corresponding to the downlink signal. This avoids a beam mismatch, and improves efficiency of a random access process.

    • This application discloses a method for performing communication based on a beam group, and a device. In the method, a terminal device groups transmit beams of a network device based on a receive beam of the terminal device; the terminal device determines spatial direction information of each beam group; the terminal device sends, to the network device, the spatial direction information of each beam group or information that is about a correlation between beam groups and that is determined based on the spatial direction information; the network device obtains the information about the correlation between the beam groups; and when a first beam pair used for communication between the network device and the terminal device fails, the network device selects a second beam pair based on the information about the correlation between the beam groups, to communicate with the terminal device, where a transmit beam of the network device in the first beam pair belongs to a first beam group, a transmit beam of the network device in the second beam pair belongs to a second beam group, and a correlation between the second beam group and the first beam group meets a preset condition.

    • Embodiments of the present invention disclose a communication method, including: performing, by a base station, beam scanning and alignment together with first user equipment in a first subframe, to determine a beam that is used for sending data in the first subframe, where a quantity of beams used for sending data is greater than or equal to 1; and when sending data to the first user equipment by using the beam, sending, by the base station, beam information of the beam used for sending data, where the beam information includes at least identification information of the beam and a synchronization signal, where the synchronization signal is used by second user equipment to synchronize with the base station, and the identification information of the beam is used by the first user equipment and the second user equipment to identify the beam sent by the base station. The embodiments of the present invention further disclose a base station and user equipment. According to the present invention, a time for scanning and alignment can be reduced, so as to facilitate quick access of a user that is to perform access.
