摘要： A satellite communications system uses multiple ground stations and one or more satellites for communicating between mobile subscribers and a land-based communications network, such as the PSTN or the Internet. Multiple ground stations geographically dispersed minimize toll charges incurred routing calls from a mobile subscriber through the land network by reducing the need for long-distance calling. Further, because each ground station communicates with a given satellite using the same frequency spectrum, the subscriber capacity of the system increases and/or bandwidth requirements for the communications link between ground stations and satellites may be reduced. The present system uses ground-based beamforming techniques enabling each satellite to transmit signals in multiple transmission beams, each beam supporting one or more mobile subscribers. Each beam may reuse the same frequency spectrum, thereby increasing the number of subscribers supported by each satellite. Multiple ground stations cooperatively relay signals through a given satellite in a manner complementary with ground-based beamforming.

摘要： A bias controller sets the quiescent current of a power amplifier to a desired value by dynamically adjusting the power amplifier bias voltage. Using closed-loop control, the bias controller sets the bias voltage to whatever value is needed despite circuit component variations and temperature effects. Operation of the bias controller complements dynamic bias voltage adjustment in advance of transmit operations, such as in advance of a transmitburst. In a first state, where the power amplifier is in a quiescent condition, the bias controller adjusts bias voltage to set the desired quiescent current by detecting the supply current into the power amplifier. The bias controller then transitions to a second state, where it maintains the adjusted bias voltage irrespective of amplifier supply current. Despite its ability to sense supply current into the power amplifier, the bias controller's configurations avoid dissipative current sensing during normal operation of the power amplifier.

摘要： The combination of narrowband application with broadband transport may be enabled with an intermediate signaling protocol that supports narrowband inter-domain bearer independent call control (BICC) signaling over a broadband network. For each setup request carried by the BICC signaling protocol, a seize device message is forwarded from narrowband call control node to an intermediate entity responsible for converting the seize device message into a broadband endpoint request message. The interworking entity obtains broadband endpoint information from a selected broadband endpoint and creates a dynamic device representing the selected broadband endpoint. The dynamic device is used in the establishment of inter-domain switch connections.
