摘要： An alignment verification device (10) includes a spacer element (12) and an alignment guide surface (40). The spacer element (12) has proximal and distal portions and an insert engaging element (20) disposed on the distal portion. The proximal portion can be of such a design so as to serve as a handle for the verification device. The alignment guide surface (40) is affixed to the spacer element (12) and defines an alignment orifice (42). The alignment orifice (42) is spaced apart from the insert engaging element (20). A prosthesis (102) is also disclosed having an engaging element (50,70) and a visual indicator element (26). The engaging element (50,70) is configured to releasably engage the prosthesis engaging element (20) of the alignment verification device (10) so that, upon engagement, the alignment orifice (42) is spaced apart from the visual indicator element (26). The engagement of the alignment verification device (10) with the prosthesis (102) can thus be adapted to permit a sighting element (108) of an image obtaining device (106) to be aligned with the alignment orifice (42) and the visual indicator element (26) so that an image obtaining device (106) is aligned with the prosthesis (102) in a known orientation.

摘要： An installation tool that is useful for the efficient and effective placement of an article, such as an artificial disc, between adjacent vertebral bodies is provided. The installation tool can be provided as a kit having modular components which allow the surgeon to select from among a variety of components to assemble an installation tool that is optimized for its intended use. The installation tool of the invention generally includes a pair of opposed levers, each of which has a proximal handle portion and a distal portion. A fulcrum is disposed between the two levers to enable proper operation of the tool. The tool further includes a pusher block that is positioned between the two levers and is selectively movable between an initial location distal of the fulcrum and a final location adjacent the distal end of the levers. The pusher block includes a proximal end, a distal end, and a bore extending at least partially therethrough. A pusher rod, which facilitates movement of a pusher block, has a distal end extending into the bore in the pusher block and a proximal, handle end.

The fusion cage includes a ramp member (20) having superior and inferior bone contacting surfaces (22,24), and anterior and posterior sides (26,28). 摘要： The present invention expands a spinal (3) canal by drilling a cylindrical passage (7) in each pedicle (2) of a vertebra (1), making a circumferential pedicle cut (osteotomy) (11) through each pedicle (2) from within the passage (7), separating each pedicle cut (11) by inserting an implant (16) into the passage (7) which distracts the pedicle cut (11) to expand the spinal canal (3), and securing each pedicle cut (11), allowing the vertebra (1) to heal with the spinal canal (3) expanded. The implant (16) includes an outer sleeve (17), an inner bolt (18), and expandable flanges (21). The outer sleeve (17) includes an upper portion (19) and a lower portion (20), with the expandable flanges (21) connected to the lower portion (20) and housed within the upper portion (19). Rotation of the inner bolt (18) causes the upper and lower portions (19, 20) of the outer sleeve (17) to separate, causing the pedicle cut (11) to widen and the expandable flanges (21) to radially extend into and stabilize the widened pedicle cut (11) to effectuate expansion of the spinal canal (3).

The anterior wall has a middle portion, lateral end portions, each having a maximum height, and the maximum height of the middle portion is greater than the maximum height of the lateral end portions. The posterior portion of each bearing surface is adapted to bear against the anterior half of the disc space.
