The movable portion may be an optical pickup unit (100) comprising an electromagnetic radiation source (200). The copper foil is for shielding electromagnetic noises radiated from the electromagnetic radiation source. The copper foil may be disposed only the vicinity of the electromagnetic radiation source.

    • A shorted dual MR head (70) which is magnetically shielded for the purpose of isolating the dual MR head from extraneous magnetic fields and from long wavelength recorded signals which could cause nonlinear distortion of the dual MR head but not shielded for the purpose of improving linear resolution. The magnetic shields (10,12) do not significantly affect linear resolution of the dual MR head and can be spaced apart from the dual MR head over a wide range of separation distances limited by factors other than the characteristic bit length of the magnetic signal to be resolved. In one embodiment, at least one shielding element for the dual MR head can be one of the poles or other components of an inductive record head and, together, the two heads can form an integrated thin-film inductive record/MR reproduce head assembly.

    • A magnetic head for floppy discs has a shielding member (31, 41, 52, 71, 52A) surrounding a core (13, 53) and coil (16, 54) of the head so as to prevent the head from being adversely affected by an external magnetic field. The shielding member is a stack of sheets (32₋₁ through 32₋₆, 42₋₁ through 42₋₆, 60₋₁ through 60₋₆, 60A₋₁ through 60A₋₆) and each sheet is made of magnetic metal such as permalloy and is fixed on a gimbal plate (17, 17A) together with the magnetic head. Insulator layers (43, 72) made of thermoplastic resin may be provided between sheets of the stack of sheets to adhere the metal sheets to one another and to electrically insulate the metal sheets from one another.
