    • A database of pre-stored information is provided to support address resolution to determine addresses that can be used to control routing through a network such as call routing through a telephone network or e-mail routing. When address describing data is received from a terminal of the network, address resolution equipment determines an identifier of an intended destination based on the address describing data, if need be by combining it with the database. The result is used to control routing of data through the network. Furthermore, the address describing data is inspected for information items that applied to the intended destination but were by themselves insufficient to determine the identifier, without using other parts from the address describing data. When such an information item is found, a new record is added to the database of pre-stored address resolution information or an existing record is modified the new or modified record representing that information derived from said insufficient information part applies to the identifier that was determined to supply the address. The new or modified record is subsequently used resolve further address describing data to route other data.

    • An address for controlling transmission of routing through a network is obtained by means of input from a combination of network terminals. Initially, address describing data is received from a user via a source terminal. A control circuit determines whether the address describing data is sufficient to define an address of a destination. If not, the control circuit uses the address describing data to extract information must be met by the destination, but for which it is not known for specific destinations whether it is met. The information may define a desired property of the destination for example, or a mutual relation between the user and the destination. The control circuit then transmits a confirmation request to one or more possible destinations, to ask whether information relates to the possible destination. If a positive confirmation is received back from a possible destination, the address of this possible destination is used. Information that the information relates to the possible destination may be stored to resolve future address describing information.

    • A migration communication control device constructed to control a continuous communication between a mobile node and a partner node unaffected the mobile node's migration. The migration communication control device comprises a first migration control unit, a second migration control unit on the mobile node, and a third migration control unit on the partner node. The first migration control unit comprises a packet transfer unit and an address post unit. The packet transfer unit receives a packet which was destined for an outdated address of the mobile node, generates a conversion packet which holds an updated address instead of the outdated address, and then transmits the conversion packet, while an address post unit transmits an address post message which indicates the updated address to the third migration control unit. The second migration control unit comprises a migration post unit and a packet resumption unit. The migration post unit transmits to the first migration control unit a migration post message which indicates the updated address when the mobile node migrates to another network while a packet resumption unit receives the conversion packet from both the first migration control unit and the third migration control unit and resumes an original packet from the conversion packet. The third migration control unit comprises a packet conversion unit which converts a destination address of a packet into the updated address, then transmits it to the mobile node.
