    • Disclosed is a sternum closure device for securing two sternum parts that are to be interconnected. Said sternum closure device comprises an internal contact element that is to rest against the internal surface of the sternum, at least one clamping element which is secured to the internal contact element and transversally projects therefrom, and at least one external contact element that is to rest against the external surface of the sternum and can be braced against the internal contact element by means of the clamping element which extends through the intermediate space between the sternum parts. In order to be able to cut through the sternum with as little obstruction as possible when the sternum has to be operated again, the internal contact element is composed of two separate parts, each of which is embodied so as to rest against one of the two sternum parts, while connecting means are provided for removably connecting the two adjacent parts.
