摘要： An optical device in a variable magnification electrostatic copying apparatus. The optical device comprises a first reflecting mirror assembly mounted for reciprocal movement, a second reflecting mirror assembly mounted for reciprocal movement substantially parallel to the reciprocating direction of the first reflecting mirror assembly, and a speed-reduction interlocking mechanism for moving the second reflecting mirror assembly at a speed one-second of the moving speed of the first reflecting mirror assembly according to the movement of the first reflecting mirror assembly. The optical device further includes a magnification setting mechanism for changing the relative position of the second reflecting mirror assembly to the first reflecting mirror assembly according to a magnification of copying. The magnification setting mechanism comprises a setting cam having a plurality of acting portions corresponding to a plurality of magnification values and a setting member adapted to be held by the setting cam at any one of a plurality of setting positions corresponding to the plurality of magnification values. The changing of the position of the setting member causes a change in the relative position of the second reflecting mirror assembly to the first reflecting mirror assembly.

摘要： An electrostatic copying method of the transfer type which comprises repeatedly performing a copying cycle including an image-forming step of forming a latent electrostatic image on a photosensitive material moved through an endless moving path or a toner image obtained by developing it, a transfer step of transferring the latent electrostatic image or the toner image on the photosensitive material to a receptor member subsequent to the image-forming step, and a cleaning step of cleaning the photosensitive material subsequent to the transfer step. When the width or length of a receptor member to be used in the next copying cycle is found to be larger than the width or length of a receptor member used in the preceding copying cycle as a result of comparison of at least one of the width and length of the receptor member to be used in the next copying cycle respectively with at least one of the width and length of the receptor member used in the preceding copying cycle, the above cleaning step is additionally performed after the end of the preceding copying cycle before the next copying cycle is started.

摘要： A document cover supporting mechanism for a copying apparatus has a hinge bracket (7) to be mounted to the apparatus housing and a cover support member (5) pivotal about a shaft (14) carried by the hinge bracket (7). A positioning member (15) is mounted to the hinge bracket (7) and has a first frictional surface (16) which is convex about a horizontal axis (16a). A contact member (19), which is mounted to the support member (5), has a second frictional surface (26) which is convex about a horizontal axis and is resiliently pushed against the first frictional surface (16). The contact member (19) and positioning member (15) are so relatively positioned that in the horizontal cover closed position the point of contact is so located that the cover is biased downwardly while the mechanism is capable of supporting the cover in its raised position for replacement of a document to be copied.
