摘要： Apparatus for thickening papermaking pulp in water has a pair of spaced-apart rolls (20, 22) and a woven wire belt (30) trained around these rolls. The pulp is supplied at the first roll (20) for centrifugal extraction and is carried by the belt to the second roll (22) for further water extraction and thickening, and is then discharged from the apparatus. In one embodiment, the first roll (20) is formed with an open surface, and the suspension is delivered to the belt at least partially by flowing through the first roll from a headbox (40) in the on-running wedge zone. The second roll (22) is porous and has auxiliary water-removing appliances associated therewith, including blow boxes for forcing air either inwardly or outwardly of the second roll.

摘要： Froth flotation apparatus for separating contaminant particles from liquid suspension stock, e.g. in the de-inking of used news print, includes a cell comprising inner (24) and outer (25) annular chambers of substantially equal depth. The inlet (40) and outlet (54) connections for the stock are located adjacent the bottoms of the two chambers to force the stock to travel through the full depth of each chamber. A baffle (27) of substantial width is provided on the top of the wall between the two chambers to spread the stock overflowing that wall into a thin film. Sparger means (30) mounted in the bottom wall (23) of the outer chamber (25), such as an explosion-type flowbox (32), is employed to aerate the stock as it is delivered to the froth flotation apparatus.

A doctor mechanism is provided for transferring thickened pulp from the surface of the second roll (22) into a trough (50) mounted in the space bounded by the two rolls (20,22) and the upper and lower runs of the belt (30). The doctor mechanism includes a rigid doctor blade (55) mounted with its working edge in close but spaced relation with the bare surface of the roll (22) to remove pulp therefrom without contact with the roll surface. The mounting apparatus periodically oscillates the blade (55) about a horizontal axis to move its working edge away from and back to its closely spaced working relation with the roll (22).

摘要： Apparatus for thickening a suspension of pulp material, such as paper making pulp in water, employs a single pair of liquid-impervious rolls (20, 22) and a single loop (30) of wire trained around both rolls which are spaced from each other in substantially the same horizontal plane. The pulp stock to be thickened is delivered into a wedge zone (44) defined by the upper wire run approaching the top of one roll (20) and the surface of that roll, so that the pulp is trapped between the wire and roll as it travels around the roll with the wire, and the rolls are driven at sufficient speed to develop centrifugal forces which cause liquid to be expressed through the wire from the pulp trapped against the roll. The resulting partially dewatered pulp is redeposited from the first roll (20) onto the lower wire run for travel to the other roll (22), where it is similarly subjected to centrifugal force for further expression of liquid through the wire, after which the pulp is removed from the surface of the second roll in a wedge zone (52) defined by the surface of that roll and the wire run travelling therefrom to the first roll.

摘要： In screening apparatus for paper fiber stock of the type wherein a cylindrical perforate screen member (13) defines screening (15) and accepts (16) chambers on the inner and outer sides thereof in a closed housing (10), the inlet chamber (20) for stock to be screened is located below the screening chamber (15) to facilitate elimination of high specific gravity reject materials before the stock reaches the screening chamber. Special provision is made for accelerating the flow of plastic and other reject materials of lower specific gravity than wet paper fibers to a reject chamber (55) above the screening chamber (15), and baffles (40, 52) are also provided for preventing recirculation of such reject materials to the lower end of the screening chamber and thereby concentrating them in the reject chamber from which they are removed via outlet (56) and fed to a dewatering device that delivers essentially dry reject material for ready disposal. The effectiveness and efficiency of the apparatus is further promoted by supplying water via an inlet (57) for washing fiber away from reject materials in the upper portion of the screening chamber and thereby increasing the overall yield of recovered fiber.
