    • A code word for signal type is provided for the transmission of PALplus signals. A partial decoding of the additonal PALplus information is provided for the recording of PALplus signals on S-VHS recorders such that the additional information is recorded as baseband signals. The code word can take into account a partial decoding that has already taken place. When PALplus signals are recorded on S-VHS recorders, the color signal can still only be reproduced in standard form. The playback process for PALplus signals with a reduction of cross effects is known as colour-plus and requires visual storage in the playback device. However, the capacity of this visual storage in a PALplus receiver-decoder is generally available during the playback of PALplus signals recorded on S-VHS recorders and can be advantageously used for quality-enhancing measures. For recorded PALplus signals the signal type code word is made to carry additional information which indicates to the playback device that a recorder PALplus signal is present and thus that a partial decoding, i.e. transposing of the additonal information into the baseband, has taken place. On the basis of this information a corresponding part of the signal decoding in the playback device will then no longer be activated. This expanded code word must now, for reasons of compatibility, be provided also for rerecorded PALplus signals of at least the second generation as well as for PALplus software placed on the market through cassettes. For such prerecorded software it is then possible, using the expanded code word in PALplus recorders, to initiate a lockout that ensures better copy protection.

    • In a VTR signal processing circuit, a first reproduced color under signal and a second reproduced color under signal obtained by delaying by one or two horizontal period in synchronism with a predetermined clock signal are supplied to the first and second frequency converter circuits (1 and 2) respectively, a frequency signal having frequency 2n times that of a carrier used in frequency conversion for converting a frequency of the reproduced color under signal into a frequency corresponding to a standard color signal is produced by an oscillator circuit (7), this oscillation frequency is divided (11) such that it becomes the above mentioned carrier frequency, four carriers having phases 0 degree, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, and 270 degrees respectively are produced, the four carriers are selectively output and supplied to the first and second frequency converter circuits (1 and 2) such that an output signal of the first frequency converter circuit (1) and an output signal of the second frequency converter circuit (2) become in phase or inverted phase, and a color cross-talk between tracks is removed by adding the both output signals or subtracting one of the output signals from the other (4), the clock generator circuit (12-20) for generating a clock signal in synchronism with a horizontal sync signal separated from a reproduced luminance signal is provided and the delaying operation of the delay circuit is controlled by this clock signal.

    • A PAL pulse generating circuit has a voltage control oscillator (12) which oscillates in synchronization with the phase of a burst signal in a PAL recording chroma signal, an ID detection circuit (23) which detects a phase difference between the oscillation output signal of the voltage control oscillator and the burst signal, a frequency divider circuit (24) which divides the frequency of a horizontal synchronizing signal, and a selecting circuit (26) which selectively outputs a plurality of output signals of the frequency divider circuit according to the detection output signal of the ID detection circuit. Thus, the PAL pulse can be produced within an IC.
