    • The conveyor line (1) of a conveyor has a branching point (6) with a switch (7). This switch has a pivotable switching member (8) which in one position lies in this conveyor line (1) and in the other position connects this first conveyor line (1) with a second conveyor line (10). Preceding the branching point (6) is a retaining member (11) that can be inserted into the path of movement of the transport elements (2) conveyed along the conveyor line (1). This retaining member (11) can be used to hold back the transport elements (2) approaching the branching point in order to create room for changing over the switching member (8). The transport elements are independent of one another, which makes it possible, selectively and as required, either to move the oncoming transport elements (2) along the first conveyor line (1) or to divert them into the second conveyor line (10).

    • Die Abstände zwischen Gegenständen, die mit Hilfe von entlang eines Schienenstranges (1) voneinander unabhängig verfahrbaren Halteelementen (2) gefördert werden, werden in einem Einstellbereich (B), beispielsweise für eine Bearbeitung, auf einen vorgegebenen Wert eingestellt, der grösser ist als der Minimalabstand. Dafür wird eine endlos umlaufende Einstellkette (5) vorgesehen, die gesteuert stauchbar bzw. verlängerbar ist und deren Umlaufbahn mindestens im Einstellbereich (B) parallel zum Schienenstrang (1) verläuft und mit entlang des Schienenstrangs (1) geförderten Halteelementen (2) im Eingriff ist. Im Einstellbereich (B) ist ferner ein Steuermittel zur Einstellung eines vorgegebenen Stauchzustandes der Einstellkette (5) vorgesehen. Die Einstellkette (5) besteht beispielsweise aus gelenkig miteinander verbundenen Kettengliedern (6), wobei jeder zweiten gelenkigen Verbindung von Kettengliedern (6) in einer Umlaufführung (8) abrollende Führungsrollen (7.1) und Mitnehmer zur Mitnahme von Halteelementen (2) zugeordnet sind und den anderen gelenkigen Verbindungen Steuerrollen (12) zugeordnet sind, welche Steuerrollen (12) entlang einer als Steuermittel dienenden Kulisse (11) laufen. Dabei bestimmt der Abstand zwischen der Umlaufführung (8) und der Kulisse (11) den Stauchungsgrad der Einstellkette (5) und damit den Abstand zwischen den Halteelementen (2) im Einstellbereich (B). Die Vorrichtung eignet sich insbesondere für die Einstellung von Halteelement-Abständen grösser als die Minimalabstände zwischen Halteelementen, die in gestossenem Betrieb gefördert werden, wobei die Einstellkette (5) vorteilhafterweise passiv umlaufend ist.

The conveying system also comprises devices (A) for loading the conveying/holding means with objects or groups of objects which are to be processed. Devices (V) are provided for processing objects or groups of objects. The conveying system has devices (B) for unloading processed objects or groups of objects from conveying/holding means. Entry control means and collecting sections located upstream therefrom are assigned to the devices (A, B, V). The entry control appoints the spatial location of the conveying/holding means or of the objects which is required by the device. The device orders the conveying/holding means or objects in a temporal sequence required by the device, and conveying/holding means are optionally accumulated on the collecting section before the entry control. The devices (A, B, V) with entry control means assigned thereto, and switches (SV, SZ) are organized separately or in groups in autonomous stations (S) having station-internal controlling means.

    • A first series (24) of sheet material articles (26), conveyed by a first gripper conveyor (34), is interleaved with a second series (28) of sheet material articles (30), conveyed by a second conveyor (52), to enable the first and second series (24;28) of articles (26,30) to be delivered to a single receiving location (48) in an interleaved relationship. To form the first series (24) of sheet material articles (26), a plurality of collating spaces are sequentially moved past a first group of hoppers (86).
