摘要： The present invention relates to a modified fibrous product and a method of producing the same. According to the method, transparent areas are generated in the fibrous product, such as in a paper or a cardboard sheet or in a paper or a cardboard web. According to the present invention, a carbohydrate derivative that includes a plasticizer is incorporated into the fibrous product, and the carbohydrate derivative, which is plasticized with the plasticizer, is brought, in a liquid state and under pressure, to migrate in between the fibres of the product in such a way that at least part of the plasticizer penetrates, into the lumens of the fibres, in which case the fibrous product becomes transparent in the treated area. By using the solution, it is possible to simplify the method of further processing paper or cardboard for consumer packages. The present invention can be applied to, among other products, envelopes having a window through which the address is visible. Other applications are all kinds of foodstuff and consumer packages in which windows for product display are currently used.

The envelope comprises a first paper sheet having a closure flap of the envelope along a folding line and it comprises a window to view the envelope contents, wherein the window perimeter comprises a first segment and a second segment which extend lengthwise in the direction of the folding line. The envelope further comprises a substantially transparent second paper sheet to close the window, the first and second sheets defining an overlapping region which surrounds the window and in which they overlap. The envelope further comprises a glue layer to glue the first and second sheets, the glue layer being applied to part of the overlapping region around the window perimeter so as to surround the window. The overlapping region comprises a first glue-free region defined between the first segment of the window perimeter and the glue layer surrounding the first segment and comprises a second glue-free region defined between the second segment of the window perimeter and the glue layer surrounding the second region; the width of the first glue-free region is greater than the width of the second glue-free region. Advantageously the width of the first glue-free region is 3 mm or more.
