摘要： A centrifugal separator for cleaning gas containing liquid impurities comprises a stationary casing (1), enclosing a separation space (2) through which a gas flow is permitted. The stationary casing comprises a surrounding side wall (3), a first end wall and a second end wall. An inlet extends through the stationary casing and permits supply of the gas to be cleaned. A rotating member comprises a stack of separation disks (8) and rotates around an axis (x) of rotation. A drive member (17) rotates the rotating member. A gas outlet (20) permits discharge of cleaned gas, and comprises an outlet opening (21) through the side wall. A drainage outlet (19) permits discharge of liquid impurities separated from the gas. The outlet opening is positioned opposite to the stack of separation disks (8).

摘要： Centrifuges are useful to, among other things, remove red blood cells from whole blood and retain platelets and other factors in a reduced volume of plasma. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) and or platelet poor plasma (PPP) can be obtained rapidly and is ready for immediate injection into the host. Embodiments may include valves, operated manually or automatically, to open ports that discharge the excess red blood cells and the excess plasma into separate receivers while retaining the platelets and other factors in the centrifuge chamber. High speeds used allow simple and small embodiments to be used at the patients side during surgical procedures. The embodiments can also be used for the separation of liquids or slurries in other fields such as, for example, the separation of pigments or lubricants.

摘要： An improved method for separating whole blood into components and collecting a desired blood component. The method allows a desired blood component to be subjected to centrifugal forces within a separator for prolonged periods of time, yielding a cleaner cut and higher yield of the desired blood component. Whole blood is drawn from a source and pumped into a separator, the undesired blood components are removed from the separator at rates so as to build up the desired blood component in the separator. The desired blood component is only removed after a predetermined amount of the desired blood component has built up in the separator. It is preferred that the desired blood component be buffy coat and that the method be used to perform photopheresis treatments. In another aspect, the invention is a method of performing a full photopheresis treatment to treat diseases in a reduced time, preferably less than about 70 minutes, and more preferably less than about 45 minutes.
