摘要： The unit has an input unit for connecting to a power source (11), and a phase differential control unit (16) for controlling the power factor at the input and for maintaining a desired relationship between the output voltage and current. The unit further includes a heater control unit (17) for providing heater voltage when starting the lamps (12) and for disconnecting the heater voltage when the lamps are on. A lamp starting unit (18) is provided to alternatively apply full voltage across a single lamp and then apply full voltage across all lamps in series until all lamps are on. Finally, a disconnected lamp sensor and current limiter unit (19) is provided to detect when one or more lamps are electrically disconnected and to respond by limiting the current that may pass through the output unit (14) to thereby protect persons working with the unit.

摘要： Sometimes a discharge lamp is operated with two heated electrodes while still running the feeding auxiliary installation after the start of the lamp. The invention reduces these unnecessary losses. To this effect, each electrode (13, 14) is provided with a parallel diode (D46, D47) so that, in each half-cycle of the main a-c voltage source (C23) the only conductive diode is the one connected to the negative electrode which is the emitter electrode in that half-period. The voltage on the emitter electrode is thereby limited to 1 volt whereas it would be higher without a diode.

摘要： Electronic starter circuits for discharge lamps have been proposed employing the pulse producing properties of a non-linear dielectric element. This starter uses such an element (CV) which can produce a voltage pulse substantially in excess of twice the peak of the supplied voltage in response to a voltage pulse above its saturation voltage. The starter includes a semiconductor switch (S) and a diode steering circuit (D1, D2, D3) which connects the switch across the circuit input terminals (4, 6) in one polarity to pass preheating current through the lamp cathodes (2, 3) and in another part of the starting cycle connects the switch (S) in the opposite polarity in series with the non-linear dielectric element (CV) to apply an ignition voltage pulse across the lamp (1).

摘要： Two (or more) gas discharge lamps (10, 110), each in series with a choke ballast (18,118) across A.C. supply terminals (16a, 16b) are started by a single starter circuit (70), the lamps being connected to the starter circuit through respective rectifying diodes (150, 152). The starter circuit (70) operates with rectified half-cycles of the A.C. supply, and resistors (154,156) balance the cathode heating currents between the two lamps. Preferably the starter circuit is rendered ineffective in a failed-lamp condition, and to this end (per DE-OS 28 16 415) it includes a thyristor (26) triggered by a control circuit which includes a capacitor (32) effective to increase the instantaneous applied voltage which is required totriggerthe thyristor with successive cycles of the applied voltage after initial switch-on of the circuit. A Zener diode (30) is in series with the capacitor (32).
