In a preferred variant, the used coolant is embodied in the form of carbon dioxide. Each heat-exchanging unit is provided with at least one dividing system for dividing at least one distribution space or one accumulating space into two partial spaces. Said heat exchanger also comprises a flow actuating system connecting the heat-exchanging units to each other. The flow cross sections or the totality thereof arranged before and after said flow actuating device have a predetermined ratio therebetween.

an accumulator (34) integrally formed with the condenser and connected to one of said distributors (18). A part of the tubes (14a-14e) are disposed, with reference to the direction of circulation of the fluid, upstream of the accumulator (34) and form a condensing section and a part of the tubes (14f) are disposed downstream of the accumulator (34) and form a subcooling section.

The accumulator (34) extends in direction substantially orthogonal to the distributors (16, 18). The distributor (18) connected to the accumulator (34) has an integral pipe (48) which puts the accumulator (34) in communication with the subcooling section (14f).

The ratio of the axial cross-sectional area of the interior of the inlet tube (48) to the axial cross-sectional area of the space between the first header tube (30) and the inlet tube (48) is in the range of 1:4.0 to 1:7.0. The axial cross-sectional area of the interior of the inlet tube (48) is equal to or greater than 35 mm². This ratio of areas and size of inlet tube has been found to reduce considerably noise produced during use of the evaporator.

A heat exchange between the inlet refrigerant and the outlet refrigerant at the heat exchanger part (20) takes place, so that a combined gas-liquid state refrigerant is introduced into the outlet passageway (45) of the heat exchanger (20) from the evaporator (50), whereby a superheating state of the refrigerant is generated in the outlet passageway (45), and a result, no superheating action occurs in the evaporator (50), and thus the refrigerant in the evaporator (50) is kept at a constant temperature, whereby the cooling efficiency of the evaporator (50) is increased.
