    • A lens grinding apparatus is improved to ensure that the desired chamfering of the angular edge portions of a lens is easily accomplished. The improved lens grinding apparatus comprises input means for entering data on the shape of a lens to be processed, means for detecting the edge position of the subject lens on the basis of the data entered into said input means, first calculating means for determining processing data on the rough and fine processings of the subject lens on the basis of the edge position detected by said detecting means and the data entered into said input means, chamfering means which has a grinding wheel for chamfering the angular edge portions of the finely processed lens and which moves the shaft of said chamfering wheel to a shaft holding said subject lens, second calculating means which varies the amount of chamfer in correspondence with the radius vector angle of the subject lens on the basis of the processing data obtained by said first calculating means, and means for controlling the processing of the subject lens on the basis of the results of calculation by said first and second calculating means.

    • Disclosure is given for a lens grinding apparatus, comprising a pair of lens shafts (5, 5') mounted on a carriage (4), a coarse grinding wheel (1) whith at least two kinds of V-edge grinders (2, 3) and an edge thickness measuring system (10) adapted to measure the edge thickness of the lens (L) held between the lens shafts (5, 5'). The measurements of the edge thickness of the lens (L), the selection of the medium V-edge grinder (2) or the small V-edge grinder (3) and the subjection of the lens (L) to the V-edge treatment can be automatically performed. Therefore, much time and labor can be saved for the operator to lean the machining art and to select one of the suitable grinders or the like.
