    • A riveting yoke assembly (11) comprises a yoke (30), a force applying mechanism (22) and a rivet forming device (34,36). The lower rivet forming device (36) is removably coupled to the second end (40) of the yoke. The lower rivet forming device (36) has a base end (46) attached to the second end (40) of the yoke (30) and a forming end (48) with a recess (50) to form rivets (17). The recess (50) has a concave, interior surface (52) having an annular step (54) positioned between a top edge (56) of the interior surface (52) and a bottom-most point (58) of the interior surface (52) in order to properly align the rivet (17).

    • The present invention relates to a self-piercing rivet setting apparatus capable of automatically changing a die for a rivet setting operation. The self-piercing rivet setting apparatus comprises a die assembly (18) including a plurality of dies (26-30) and a movable table (31), and a driving device for moving the die assembly. The driving device is operable to move the die assembly in a direction orthogonal to the axis of a punch (14) for allowing one (26) of the dies to be displaced to a position located axially below the punch. The driving device is also operable to move the die assembly in the axial direction of the punch. In a lowered position of the die assembly, the selected die can be fixed in a die mounting hole located below the punch. In this position, the punch is operable to drive a rivet into workpieces to fasten them together.

    • A riveting device for the assemblage of two or more sheet metal sections (A, B) of a structure comprising a working unit (1 4 ) operable on one side of the sections (A, B) to be assembled and a clamping and bucking unit (26) operable one the opposite side of the sections. Both units - (14, 26) comprise clamping means (16 and 31, 62, 72) respectively, by which the sections (A, B) are clamped together during the entire working cycle in each rivet position, i.e. during hole making, seal compound application, rivet insertion and rivet upsetting. The clamping means of the bucking unit (26) comprises a head (62; 90), one or more low inertia contact elements (72; 94) and a resilient impact absorbing means (66; 101, 102) provided between the contact element or elements (72; 94) and the head (62; 90). The combination of a low inertia contact element and a resilient impact absorbing means provides a solution to the problem of reducing the extremely high contact forces generated at each blow from the riveting tool between the clamping means on the bucking side and .the sheet metal sections (A, B). Deformation of the sections (A, B) due to such high forces is thereby avoided.
