    • The invention generally provides for a dental wedge (10) with flexible members (20). The dental wedge (10) comprises a wedge shaped body (12) with sides that are serrated with multiple flexible members (20) extending away from the sides. When the dental wedge (10) is inserted between adjacent teeth (50, 52), the flexible members (20) bend and conform to the surfaces of the teeth (50, 52). This generally increases the frictional surface area between the dental wedge (10) and the teeth (50,52), thereby providing the dental wedge (10) with increased retention capabilities for remaining in place between the teeth (50, 52). In some embodiments, the flexible members (20) also comprise edges and/or gritty surfaces for further increasing the retention capabilities of the dental wedge (10).

    • The present invention relates to a dental matrix band (200) used during tooth restoration procedures. The matrix bands have a smooth interior side (203) which is placed in contact with the tooth (700b) requiring restoration. The exterior side (204) has a frictional engagement suface (206) which is at least a portion of its surface that is configured to provide increased friction. The matrix band (200) is preferably placed around a tooth (700b) to be restored by a dental matrix band holder (210) with the frictional engagement surface (206) facing the embrasure or space between the teeth. A dental wedge (630a) can then be inserted into the embrasure against the frictional engagement surface to hold the dental matrix band (200) stationary with respect to the tooth (700b). The frictional engagement surface (206) is sufficiently rough that dental wedges (630a) are much less likely to slip out of an embrasure once positioned against the frictional engagement surface (206), thereby ensuring that a matrix band (200) will be securely held in place by a dental wedge (630a) to enable the practioner to confidently proceed with the restoration. The matrix bands may be formed from opaque materials such as stainless steel or from materials which are translucent.
