    • With reference to Figure 1, apparatus 1 for treating a surface, in this example the painted surface 2 of an aircraft fuselage 10, comprises an upright disposed canopy 3 for placing (as shown) in close proximity to the surface 2. The canopy 3 defines an aperture 4 allowing access to the surface 2 of a pressurised mixture of abrasive material and fluid, and is provided with a flexible duct 5 for subsequently collecting the mixture after use. The abrasive media comprises particles of plastics or natural material, which are only mildly abrasive, whereby only paint is removed from the surface 2, leaving the anodised layer of the surface undamaged. The abrasive mixture is supplied by a hand-held blast gun 6, which is preferably of the form disclosed by UK Patent No. 2,065,514. The gun 6 is provided with an internal mixing chamber whereby separate flows of the abrasive particles and water are introduced via supply ducts 7, 8 of flexible construction, before being discharged on to the surface 2 by way of a nozzle. The abrasive mixture can also be fed to a blast nozzle by way of an air-fed injector connected to a pressurised container. The canopy 3, which is of box-like form, is provided with flexible seal 15 held in place by suckers 16.

    • A surface cleaner wherein abrasive particles are directed against a surface to be cleaned, after which the abrasive particles rebound into the cleaner and return for recirculation. Several features are involved. First there is provided an accelerator(180)for the normally gravity flowing abrasive particles to accelerate the particles towards a throwing wheel(90) wherein the abrasive particles are spread over a greater depth of an associated throwing vane. Some of the abrasive particles will not rebound entirely up into the machine for return to the abrasive particle supply chamber. Accordingly, there is provided a separate path(222,100, 104)for the weaker rebounding abrasive particles to return to the accelerator(180). The throwing wheel(90) includes a tubular hub(150)into which one of the supporting bearings (152) for the associated shaft (134) is telescoped. This permits throwing wheels of different widths to be utilized. The vanes (164) of the throwing wheel (90) are flat vanes having at their inner ends enlargements (178). The vanes slide through slots (160) with enlarged inner openings in an axial direction for mounting and removal. The vanes can be removed from the cleaner through an opening in one of the side walls thereof after a cover plate (120) has been removed. There is also a wear plate (212) which controls in part the direction of flow of abrasive particles from the throwing wheel (90). The wear plate (212) protects part of the housing and most particularly one of the housing seals with the surface being cleaned.

    • A shot blasting machine is dimensioned and adapted so that it can be hand-held by a worker during a shot blasting operation. The machine includes an abrasive throwing wheel assembly which is housed within a hood both of which are preferably formed of a plastics material such as an elastomeric polyurethane. The hood has a peripheral opening through which abrasive is directed by the throwing wheel assembly. A driving motor external and to one side of the hood is connected to the abrasive throwing wheel assembly to rotate the latter. The other side of the hood is formed with an abrasive inlet through which the abrasive is fed into the throwing wheel assembly. Handles are preferably provided on both the hood and the driving motor to assist the worker in supporting and guiding the machine during operation. Abrasive is preferably fed to the shot blasting machine from an overhead abrasive supply system from which the shot blasting machine is suspended by supporting cables or the like. The abrasive may be gravity fed to the shot blasting machine or it may be fed to the shot blasting machine through a screw conveyor arrangement.

    • Ziel der Erfindung ist es, das komplexe System der Bearbeitung der Schiffsseiten durch eine entsprechende Technik für den Unterboden zu ergänzen. Die Aufgabe besteht darin, eine auf dem Dockboden unter dem Schiffskörper manövrierfähige Einrichtung zu schaffen, die eine mechanische Reinigung oder Entrostung des Unterbodens in seinen ebenen, begrenzt geneigten und verformten Bereichen ermöglicht.
      Erfindungsgemäß wird diese Aufgabe durch einen mobilen Geräteträger gelöst, der mit mehreren, wahlweise einsetzbaren Arbeitsgeräten zur Reinigung und Entrostung bestückt werden kann. Das jeweilige Arbeitsgerät wird vom Geräteträger über eine kardanische Aufnahme an den Unterboden gedrückt und kann sich somit auch an verformte Bereiche mit seiner Arbeitsöffnung anpassen.

The cooling medium may be applied to the surface to be treated in advance of the machine as it moves over the surface but is preferable also introduced into a flow of air drawn into the machine to assist the passage of rebounding particles and removed dirt along the recirculation path to the seperator.

    • The claimed invention relates to mechanical engineering, in particular, to apparatuses for cleaning surfaces from contamination. The apparatus comprises a body, a shaft with a rotation axis, wherein such shaft is mounted to allow rotation in the body about the rotation axis and driven by a shaft rotation drive. The apparatus comprises a stationary cutter die secured to the body and made with at least one stationary cutter. The apparatus comprises a flat throughput die secured to the body and placed in the body below the stationary cutter die in a plane parallel to the plane of the stationary cutter die. The apparatus also comprises a rotating cutter die mounted on a shaft and driven by the shaft. The rotating cutter die is located between the mounting plane of the upper stationary cutter die and the mounting plane of the flat throughput die, and is made to allow cutting the pellets of solid cryogenic substance in the plane of contact between the stationary cutter die and the rotating cutter die and/or in the plane of contact between the flat throughput die and the rotating cutter die. Moreover, the rotating cutter die is made with at least one cutter rotating about a rotational axis. The flat throughput die is located from the rotating cutter at a distance, that determines the maximum size of the cutting fraction, and has multiple through holes. The use of the claimed invention allows to improve the reliability and increase the performance of the dry ice blasting process. 2 independent claims, 16 dependent claims, 18 figures.
