摘要： An infra-red emitting decoy flare capable of diverting an incoming missile equipped with a counter-countermeasures system away from an intended target consisting of a primer flare (2), a spectral flare (4) and a means for igniting the primer flare (22, 30), all contained within a flare casing (6). The primer flare (2) is formed from a fast burning pyrotechnic composition and is adapted to produce an intense infra-red source of short duration on ignition. The spectral flare (4) is ignited by the burning of the primer flare (2) and is adapted to produce a slower burning composition having a fixed ratio in the intensity of infra-red radiation emitted, when burning, in at least two fixed bands.

摘要： This invention proposes to make use of an already developed set of hardware which dispenses and controls the performance of towed decoys capable of defeating radar guided weapons. Using this same hardware, a new and unique payload, payload control and dispensing mechanism is inserted into a decoy towbody. The payload consists of foils and/or foil packs of a pyrophoric material. This material creates an infrared (IR) signature behind the decoy that is more attractive than the infrared plume emitted by the aircraft engine. The fact that the IR decoy is towed insures that it will be kinematically correct by flying the same profile as the aircraft so as to remain within the field of view of the missile's seeker. Because the pyrophoric material can be metered (dispensed at varying and controllable rates) its radiant intensity can be matched with that of the engine of the towing aircraft. As the burn characteristics of the selected pyrophoric material match the burn profile of hydrocarbon based jet fuels, the towed IR decoy also emits a plume that spectrally matches that of its host aircraft's engine.

摘要： The present invention relates to an air-borne target system. The use of aerial targets in weapons training situations is well known. Targets towed by aircraft or self-propelled targets simulate the characteristics against which anti-aircraft shells and missiles might be used. Those characteristics might include shape or thermal signatures. Gas or petroleum powered burners have been used to heat a mesh or solid surface which gives the required thermal signature. However, the use of a burner also provides a visual indicator. Whilst not causing any problems for daylight training missions, during night-time operations, often a person training in the use of anti-aircraft weaponry inadvertently follows the visual signature rather than the thermal signature. This clearly reduces the effectiveness of the training in simulating battle conditions where there may be no visual indication as to a target's location. The present invention addresses this problem by providing an aerial target including an electrically-powered heater unit.
