摘要： A utility distribution system is provided for modular furniture of the type comprising individual furniture units (3) which are juxtaposed to form one or more workstations. A signal conductor (5) is positioned in each furniture unit, and extends generally between opposite sides thereof. Quick-disconnect connectors (7) are provided at the opposite ends of each of the signal conductors, and mate with like quickdisconnect connectors in adjacent furniture units to create a communications network through the workstations. Each furniture unit has a signaler (9) physically associated therewith, which is connected with an associated signal conductor at a coupler (10). A network controller (11) is operably connected to the network to evaluate the network and/or the associated furniture units. The furniture units may be equipped with one or more utility ports (12) which are connected with the coupler, and service utility appliances, such as personal computers (13), telephones (14), facsimile machines (15) switches (27), power outlets (25), data receptacles (26) and the like. The utility appliances preferably have memory capability to internally store operating instructions for the same, which are transmitted to the network controller when the utility appliance is initialized.

摘要： A process and machine are provided to manufacture furniture parts and the like with a durable, low gloss finish which has a soft, satin feel, and imparts a monolithic appearance to the part. A blank cut from a suitable substrate material is formed with a groove (3) about its marginal edge to a depth near the opposite surface of the blank. A liquid edge protection material (4) is poured into the groove and fully cured. The blank is then cut through at the filled groove to create a decorative protective strip (5) about the marginal edge of the blank. The formed blank is next coated with a selected paint or base material (7). After the base coat is cured, a layer of UV curable, protective material (8) is applied to the painted surfaces of the blank. The UV coated blank is then translated through a multi-stage, continuous feed, ultra-violet processor to selectively and sequentially cure the protective coat.

摘要： A lock and interlock mechanism for file cabinets, desks, storage units and the like includes an elongated channel (44;222) which receives a plurality of elongated lock bars (32;244) in a vertically stacked relationship. A plurality of cam actuators (34;250) are selectively positionable adjacent the elongated channel. Each actuator is pivotally mounted for movement from a first to a second position upon opening movement of a cabinet drawer. When one of the actuators is in the second or operative position, the remaining actuators may not be moved or are blocked from movement to their second positions. A detent arrangement (74,98) on the actuator and lock bars holds each actuator in its second position in a detent type fashion. A control member (122;264) is mountable on a drawer or drawer guide mechanism to pivot the actuator between its first and second positions. A lock (150) includes a bar (154) and wedge (158) movable into the channel to prevent movement of the lock bars. This prevents opening of all of the drawers.
