摘要： A method for reducing set-up signaling in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) communication system is performed by an LTE subsystem. The method includes the LTE subsystem: receiving from a first user equipment (UE) a first message as part of a connection procedure to connect the first UE to the LTE system, the first message having contents that include an identifier for identifying a virtual channel on which the first UE intends to transmit media; determining a status of the virtual channel; and based on the status of the virtual channel, determining whether to send to the first UE a response to the first message that allows the connection procedure to proceed or to send to the first UE a response that terminates the connection procedure.

The communication device calculates an estimated probability that at least one associated communication device is out of a network coverage area. The communication device determines that the associated communication device is inaccessible or is operating in an operating mode consisting of a trunked mode or a direct mode when the estimated probability is calculated to be at or below a predefined threshold. The communication device automatically activates its gateway functions and is configured to function as a direct mode gateway for at least one associated communication device when it determines that the associated communication device is operating in the direct mode.

The IF processes a user plane reservation request for a flow of user plane data from a sourcing device, and determines a set of bearers to transport the flow of user plane data. 摘要： Remote units within a first communication system ( 121 ) utilizes frequencies (channels) from a second communication system ( 120 ) when placing a call. When a first remote unit ( 106 ) wants to call a second remote unit ( 107 ) using the channels, the first remote unit sends a base station ( 103 ) a list of top N traffic channel blocks from the second communication system along with the identity of the second remote unit. The base station then pages the second remote unit using a signaling channel reserved by second system. The second remote unit responds to the page with its list of best traffic channel blocks/chunks. The base station then picks the best overlap of idle channels from the list received by the remote units, and sends the list to the remote units instructing them use those traffic channels. Once the remote units receive the available channels, they can begin their call.
