    • The present invention generally relates to an apparatus and method for compensating a landing string due to movement of a floating rig platform. In one aspect, a compensation system for use with a landing string is provided. The compensation system includes a slip joint member attachable to the landing string, the slip joint member having an upper portion and a lower portion. The compensation system further includes a first lock assembly configured to connect the upper portion of the slip joint member to a floating rig. Additionally, the compensation system includes a second lock assembly configured to connect the lower portion of the slip joint member to a riser disposed below the floating rig. In another aspect, a method for compensating a landing string due to movement of a floating rig is provided.

    • Operators manufacture a wellscreen by forming a wire-wrapped screen on a base pipe. Rather than stopping and restarting winding, the desired length of screen is completed along the base pipe, and then the wire screen is segmented into a plurality of screen sections as required for the various zones and details of the implementation. Operators arrange the screen sections relative to one another on the base pipe, which can have different lengths with and without perforations. On the free ends of these separate screen sections, mating split ring components fit around the free ends and the base pipes. Male edges of one split ring component mate to complementary female edges of another to form the end ring around the screen section and base pipe, and longitudinal welds made in seams along the mating edges affix the split ring components together.

    • A backspin retarder for a progressive cavity pump deploys on the drive string uphole from a pump unit. The backspin retarder has a shaft that connects to portions of the drive string. An impeller disposes on the shaft and can move axially and radially. In an unengaged condition, the impeller and shaft can rotate relative to one another so the drive string can rotate in a drive direction without impediment from the impeller. In an engaged condition, the impeller rotates with the shaft in a backspin direction. In this way, vanes on the impeller can retard the backspin of the shaft and drive string by attempting to force the lifted fluid column flowing downhole past the impeller back uphole. The retarder can use a pin and slot arrangement or an arrangement of engageable teeth to engage the impeller to the rotation of the shaft.
