    • A method of covering a pipeline, which can be carried out either in the factory or in the field comprises enveloping the pipeline with a covering such as a helically wound tape (20) comprising a heat recoverable layer (21), having first surrounded the pipeline with a thermal barrier layer (such as a mastic 23) that bonds to the pipeline without the application of heat. A heat activatable adhesive (22) is used to bond the heat recoverable layer (21) to the thermal barrier layer. In the most preferred embodiment the thermal barrier layer and adhesive layer are pre-applied to the heat recoverable tape, and one edge (24) of the tape is bare of thermal barrier layer to allow good bonding between adjacent overlapping turns of the tape.

    • The present invention provides a method of reentering and reclosing a cable splice case enclosing a splice between first and second cables and comprising a wrap-around sleeve and a closure channel (5), the sleeve having opposing longitudinal edge portions, each bearing a rail (4), the edge portions having been brought together around the splice such that the rails (4) are adjacent one another and the closure channel (5) being positioned over the adjacent rails (4), which method comprises: (a) removing a portion of the sleeve from the splice, leaving an end portion of the sleeve attached to the first cable; (b) removing a portion of the channel (5) from the rails (4) of the remaining portion; (c) positioning over the rails (4) of the end portion at a position where the portion of channel (5) has been removed a hot-melt adhesive plug (17), the plug (17) having a recess (19) for receipt of the rails (4); (d) positioning a heat-shrinkable reclosure sleeve around the splice, the reclosure sleeve extending from the adhesive plug at the end portion; and (e) heating to cause the reclosure sleeve to shrink into engagement with the end portion and to cause the plug (17) to soften and form a seal.
