    • A portable electronic apparatus able to execute processing concerning calibration of a geomagnetism sensor at a suitable timing and a method of calibration of such a geomagnetism sensor are provided. Further, when a key of a key input part (103) is operated in a power-saving mode, the power-saving mode ends, and the processing concerning the calibration of a detection value of a geomagnetism sensor (110) is executed. Due to this, the processing concerning the calibration is executed in a state where a user tries to view a screen of a display part (107), therefore the calibration processing is executed in a state where an angle of housings with respect to the horizontal plane is suitable, and a calculation precision of a bearing can be improved. Further, by executing the processing concerning the calibration during activation of the navigation application (processing concerning the calculation and display of the bearing), useless calibration is not carried out in a state where the calculation and display of the bearing are not carried out, therefore an increase of power consumed can be suppressed.

    • The disclosure describes a system and method for activating an electronic device from a low power state. The method comprises: in a dormant state monitoring for an activation event that represents an activation activity for the electronic device; and progressing to a movement processing state from the dormant state. Upon receipt of the activation event, in the movement processing state, the method comprises: monitoring a motion detection circuit in the electronic device for a signal indicating a movement of the electronic device; monitoring for movement data from the motion detection circuit and providing the movement data to a microprocessor in the electronic device; and analyzing the movement of the electronic device and if the movement matches a profile for an activation movement for the electronic device then activating the component on the electronic device. In the method, the dormant state had been entered when the electronic device was either turned off, placed in a holster or connected to a docking station.
