摘要： If playback devices are prohibited from playing back contents recorded in R media, there occurs a problem that it takes more time to manufacture commercial ROM media. Conversely, if playback devices are permitted to play back contents recorded in R media, there occurs a problem that copyrights might be infringed. In view of these, the aim of the present invention is to provide a content protection data processing system and a playback device capable of determine whether to permit playback of a content recorded in a recording medium, based on a medium type of the recording medium and a signature type of a signature attached to a program. This enables both the protection of the copyright of the content and the efficient manufacturing of commercial ROM media.

摘要： Problem: In a system in which a plurality of required contents is to be saved into a recording disk after a user has downloaded desired contents from among DVD contents accumulated in a server and once recorded them into a hard disk, DVD packaged contents authored in the past are utilized without re-authoring the contents therein, and copyright protection of the contents in the download distribution is strengthened.
Solution: A disk image file is produced in such a manner that data to be handled as main data among sectors of a DVD disk and header information of each of the sectors are included in data of a DVD content to be distributed from the server. By dividing into synchronization frames of the DVD to be stored on a packet basis of a transport stream, and by adding to each of the packets, identification codes for the content and for a distribution destination of the content, identification is enabled on a basis of the individual sectors for the DVD. On the side of a recording apparatus, the recording into a large-capacity optical disk or a hard disk is performed together with the identification codes each added to source packets.

摘要： A mask function that replaces at least part of information, such as video data, audio data, and sub-picture data, with invalid data is provided in an information recording/reproducing apparatus. In one example application a personal computer (PC) and the information recording/reproducing apparatus are provided with an arrangement of features which encrypt the information at a sending end, the information is then exchanged between the sending end and a receiving end, and decrypted at the receiving end. Authentication is performed between the PC and the information recording/reproducing apparatus. If the authentication succeeds, then the information is transferred from one end where the information is encrypted to the other end where the information is decrypted. However if the authentication fails, the information recording/reproducing apparatus applies the mask function to the information when read from a storage medium or to the information to be written and transferred from the PC to the storage medium.
