    • The present invention provides a tungsten-halogen light bulb having an arc tube (1) with a seal portion (5) at one end. A filament (8) is provided in the interior of the arc tube, and a basic gas mainly comprising at least either gaseous xenon or gaseous krypton is filled in the arc tube. When V (V) denotes a rated voltage of the tungsten-halogen light bulb, P(MPa) denotes a filling pressure of the basic gas at a room temperature, and Xe vol.% and Kr vol.% respectively denote composition ratios of the gaseous xenon and of the gaseous krypton, the following formulas (1) and (2) are satisfied simultaneously, in which '%' means 'volume %'. V≥100 (Volt) P≥0.7+{0.1 × (Kr%/(Kr%+Xe%))} In these formulas, Kr%+Xe%=100(%), 0≤Kr%≤100, and 0≤Xe%≤100. Accordingly, a crack at the seal portion (5) of the arc tube (1) is prevented and the lifetime is improved.

    • An infra red lamp is disclosed which comprises a powered emitter of visible and infra red radiation, which may take the form of an incandescent bulb (10), and a reflector (12) formed to direct radiation from the emitter along an output path of the lamp. A filter (14) which is preferably formed as a cold mirror is arranged in the output path to filter output radiation and preferentially transmits infra red radiation while preferentially blocking visible radiation. The reflector is such as to preferentially reflect infra red radiation and to preferentially transmit or absorb visible radiation. The combined effect of the filter and reflector is to produce an output which is particularly low in visible radiation and the invention is consequently well suited for use in covert operations where infra red sensitive viewing systems are used.

    • In an automobile lamp bulb, a shield is attached firmly to a common conductor by an improved fixing method. Dents are formed in one surface of a shield to form projections in the other surface of the same and a cut are formed in the shield. Portions of the shield defined by the cut are raised to form lugs, and projections are formed, respectively, on the lugs. A projection (which does not appear in Fig. 3(b)) is formed in the lug and corresponds to the dent project in opposite directions, respectively. The common conductor is moved in the direction of the arrows toward the shield to combine the common conductor with the shield as shown in Fig. 3(b). The projections of the shield are welded by projection welding to the common conductor to join the shield firmly to the common conductor as shown in Fig. 3(c). An inexpensive rough service automobile lamp bulb is provided. A portion of a round common conductor is flattened to form a flat portion. A shield is positioned on and welded to the flat portion of the common conductor. Since the shield is positioned on and welded to the common conductor in surface contact, the amplitude of vibration of the shield can effectively be suppressed.
