摘要： An improved card scanner (10) for imaging and decoding indica such as bar codes (40) on a side surface (19) of an inserted card (20). The device (10) is electrically powered and features a double scanning method using an electronic imaging element (31) and processor which turns off unnecessary power when not required. This is accomplished through the use of a processor and software to determine if a complete image of the bar code (40) on the inserted card has been captured and allowing immediate removal of the card (20). Should the image of the bar code (40) be incomplete, a second scan is conducted of the bar code (40) as it is removed and a complete image formed from the two individual scans. The device can also be used to compare photographs scanned from a card (20) with the digital photograph scanned from a two dimensional bar code (40) and to display both photos for viewing.

摘要： In an autoteller, where a card 10 is inserted into a slot 12 to be read by the autoteller, and remains visible at all times by means of an indentation 16 in theslot 12 whereby the card 10 can also be grasped, a cam operated 24 bale arm assembly 22, 20, 18 prevents the card 10 from being removed from the slot 12 by interposing the tips of bale arm 18-20 behind the fascia 14 of the autoteller between the card 10 and the slot 12. A bale arm clamp 30 is provided for holding the bale arm assembly 22 closed forthe card 10to be pushed into a retention bin 44 transversely to its direction of insertion into the autoteller by means of a drive wheel 36 driven card ejection pin 34 in the event of the autoteller desiring to retain the card 10. The bale arm assembly 22 performs a dual action, both preventing the removal of the card 10 and drawing the card 10 into a predetermined position prior to the card being read. The clamp 30 maintains the bale arm assembly 22 in a removal-preventing position even although the cam operating mechanism 28, 24 is de-activated.
