    • The invention relates to a system for laying and mechanically joining building panels, especially thin, hard, floating floors. Adjacent joint edges (3, 4) of two panels (1, 2) engage each other to provide a first mechanical connection locking the joint edges (3, 4) in a first direction (D1) perpendicular to the principal plane of the panels. In each joint, there is further provided a strip (6) which is integrated with one joint edge (3) and which projects behind the other joint edge (4). The strip (6) has an upwardly protruding locking element (8) engaging in a locking groove (14) in the rear side (16) of the other joint edge (4) to form a second mechanical connection locking the panels (1, 2) in a second direction (D2) parallel to the principal plane of the panels and at right angles to the joint. Both the first and the second mechanical connections allow mutual displacement of joined panels (1, 2) in the direction of the joint.

    • A flooring system comprises board shaped floor elements (1) having a mainly square or rectangular shape and each being provided with four side edges (2), a lower surface (5) and a decorative upper surface (3). The flooring system further comprises separate joining profiles (10) for connecting said board shaped floor elements (1) to each other. Each of the floor elements (1) is provided with grooves (4) which are formed in the lower surface (5) thereof, each groove being positioned in parallel to one of the side edges (2) of the floor element (1), and each joining profile (10) is provided with lips (11) arranged in pairs and joined by a middle section (12), each lip (11) being so arranged and constructed as to be received by one of the grooves (4) of a floor element (1). According to one alternative, each of the joining profiles (10) has the shape of a plus with four cheeks, and three of the cheeks of each of these joining prof iles (10) are provided with said lips (11) arranged in pairs and joined by a middle section (12), whereas the forth cheek thereof is provided with only one lip (11) and a middle section (12). Alternatively, each joining profile (10) has the shape of a T with three cheeks, the cheeks of each joining profile (10) each being provided with said lips (11) arranged in pairs and joined by a middle section (12).

    • Floor boards (1) provided with edges (2), a horizontal lower side (5), a horizontal decorative upper surface (3), lower joining lips (10) and upper joining lips (20).
