    • In an apparatus for indicating the angular position of a rotatable member, a drive coil (51) is provided with its axis corresponding to the axis of rotation of the rotatable member. A coil (65) is wound around the rotatable member, and a capacitor (66) is provided in the coil (65) to form an LC resonant circuit. The coil (65) on the rotatable member is wound so that application of an alternating magnetic field to the drive coil (51) induces a resonance in the LC circuit which is constant for all angular positions of the rotatable member. Pick-up coils (53, 55) are provided such that the planes of these coils and the drive coil (51) are orthogonal. The resonance of the LC circuit produces signals in the output coils (53, 55) which depend upon the angular position of the rotatable member. The signals may be processed to determine that angular position, and the processing is simplified with this arrangement of output coils since the signals produced therein are quadrature signals.

    • A magnetic flow meter (20) includes a cylindricaL vessel (34) within which electrodes (42) are placed directly opposite each other about a magnetically permeable core (44). In that way, two flow channels are obtained in the vessel. A common magnetic field is applied across both flow channels. The magnetic flow meter (20) is used in conjunction with a controller (100) which monitors amplitude modulated signals representative of applied magnetic field and induced electric field. These amplitude modulated signals are passed to Sigma-Delta modulators, which directly digitise the amplitude modulated AC signals into digital pulses. The controller is capable of monitoring reverse flow through the meter, and to store results until forward flow resumes. Moreover, the controller generates a driving signal for coils (64) which generates a magnetic field, the coil being placed in conjunction with a capacitor (416) which causes resonance. This reduces power consumption by the coil in driving the meter.
