The body is formed from a first material and includes a connection section and a contacting section with the contacting section having a flexible contact beam and an opposing stationary beam for receiving a male pin of a mating terminal. The covering is formed from a second material that can have a higher tensile strength than the first material and is secured to the body. The covering includes a stiffening beam and a support beam that engages the flexible contact beam providing increased normal force to the flexible contact beam.

The microphone is configured to detect an audible sound when the electrical connectors are mated. An output unit is connected to the microphone and receives audio signals from the microphone. The output unit processes the audio signals for mating assurance. The output unit may provide feedback to an assembler based on the audio signals. The output unit may determine if the electrical connectors are properly mated based on the audio signals. As a solution to the above object, the present invention specifies that the plug housing (102) and the jack housing (202) are each made of bent sheet metal, that the plug housing (102) defines male form fit sections (154, 156) and that the jack housing (202) defines female form fit sections (248, 250), wherein the male form fit sections (154, 156) and the female form fit sections (248, 250) are each arranged in point symmetric fashion.
