    • The invention provides a flashlight with a signal lamp, which is suitable for miniaturization and is easy to operate. A cylindrical sliding body (20) is fitted onto an upper outer portion of a body (10) which receives therein a cell or cells. When the sliding body (20) is slid in a vertical direction, the entire flashlight extends or contracts. A colorless transparent plate (24) and a reflecting plate (25) are provided within a cylindrical portion (21) for an illuminating lamp, such that when the entire flashlight contracts, a bulb (40) is positioned within the cylindrical portion (21) for an illuminating lamp to permit us to use the flashlight as an upward (in the figure) illuminating lamp. When the entire flashlight extends, scattered light is provided by a cylindrical portion (22) which is for a signal lamp and is formed of a red, transparent plastics, so that the flashlight can be used as a signal lamp. The cylindrical portion (22) for a signal lamp is formed inside with a groove (22C), in which an engagement projection (13C) of a rotary switch (13) is fitted. Rotation of the sliding body (20) can cause an ON/OFF action of the rotary switch (13) to thereby turn on and off the bulb (40).

    • An omnidirectional (360°) light is provided comprising a fixed, unidirectional light source (29) (including IR and UV sources as well as visible light) providing a unidirectional incident light beam (36) incident upon two or more, oppositely directed reflective surfaces (22,24) on a rotatable reflector (18) and inclined to the incident beam, preferably at 45°, to provide two or more reflected beams, directed radially away from the axis of rotation of the reflector and radially spaced one from the other at preferably 180°. Four or more reflective surfaces may be used to provide, for example, four reflected beams at 90° to each other. The reflector (18) is rotatable at high speed about the axis of rotation by a motor to cause the reflected beams each to sweep a 360° arc about the axis of rotation, the speed of rotation being such that the light appears continuous.

    • The present invention provides a portable lighting device including: a generally elongate rectilinear body having a light source extending along one longitudinal side thereof; a base on one end thereof on which the device is adapted to stand; and a handle on the opposite end thereof, the handle comprising a handle grip portion which is aligned at an acute angle to both a vertical axis through the device, and to a horizontal plane when the device is standing on its base. The present invention also provides a lantern having a light housing which allows a 360 DEG radiation of light, said light housing including a light source and being pivotally connected to a lantern body by a rotational means, said body being of a generally rectangular construction having said rotational means off-set from a longitudinal axis of said body, said lighting housing being able to rotate so as to cross said longitudinal axis of said body.

    • A lighting device (10) comprises a generally tubular body (12) having a dry cell cavity (14) adapted to contain one or more dry cells (16) for powering the light, the body having a rearward end (18) and a forward end (20). A cylindrical translucent lens (38) is fixedly mounted to the forward end of the body, and a lamp (32) is mounted to the body at or adjacent to the forward end thereof. The lamp is adapted to be electrically connected to dry cells contained within the body. A generally parabolic or cone shaped reflector (42) is slidably mounted to the cylindrical lens and located within the interior of the cylindrical lens. The reflector has an opening in the centre thereof shaped to receive at least part of the lamp therethrough. The reflector is slidable in an axial direction (37) between an extended position in which the reflector is spaced away from the lamp and light emitting from the lamp shines through the cylindrical lens, and a retracted position in which the lamp extends at least part way through the opening in the reflector, and light emitting from the lamp is reflected in a forward direction by the reflector. Preferably the reflector is mounted to a sleeve (44) which is slidably mounted to the cylindrical lens. Alternatively, the cylindrical lens may be slidable on the lamp body, and the reflector fixedly mounted to the lens. The lens may have a rear end of lesser diameter than the forward end.
