The fuel soluble additive includes a quaternary ammonium salt derived from a reaction of an amido amine containing at least one tertiary amino group and an epoxides carried out in the presence of a proton donor selected from a carboxylic acid and an alkyl phenol. The amido amine is made in a reaction medium that is substantially devoid of an acylating agent.

The present invention further relates to the use of these compounds as a fuel and lubricant additive. More particularly the invention relates to the use of these quaternized nitrogen compounds as a fuel additive for reducing or preventing deposits in the injection systems of direct injection diesel engines, especially in common rail injection systems, for reducing the fuel consumption of direct injection diesel engines, especially of diesel engines with common rail injection systems, and for minimizing power loss in direct injection diesel engines, especially in diesel engines with common rail injection systems. The invention also provides additive packages comprising these polyetheramines, and fuels and lubricants additized therewith. The invention further relates to the use of these quaternized nitrogen compounds as an additive for gasoline fuels, especially for improving the intake system cleanliness of gasoline engines.

The hydrocarbyl-substituted alkyl-hydroxybenzoate contains one or more hydrocarbyl substituents providing a total of at least 8 up to about 200 carbon atoms, provided the one or more hydrocarbyl substituents do not contain sulfur, oxygen, or nitrogen atoms.

摘要： A method and composition for identifying chemically tagged petroleum products can be achieved by adding one or more chemicals to a selected petroleum product wherein the chemical is immune to extraction from the petroleum product by conventional inexpensive absorbents, cannot be removed by extraction with acids, bases, or immiscible solvents, cannot be easily oxidized, reduced or reacted with common agents, is difficult to disguise by masking with other agents, has a low polarity, and has a boiling pint in the range of the petroleum product the chemical is being added to. The presence of the chemical is determined by using ion mobility to spectroscopy.
