摘要： Devices and related methods are directed to altering gaseous flow within a lung to improve the expiration cycle of, for instance, an individual having Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. More particularly, conduits maintain collateral openings or channels through the airway wall so that air is able to pass directly out of the lung tissue to facilitate both the exchange of oxygen ultimately into the blood and/or to decompress hyper-inflated lungs. The conduits include a center section with a passageway extending through the center section. The conduits further include a distal cage structure which has a passageway and at least one opening in fluid communication with the center section passageway. The medical kits disclosed herein are also directed to maintain collateral openings through airway walls.

摘要： The present invention, in an exemplary embodiment, provides a stent, which combines many of the excellent characteristics of both silicone and metal stents while eliminating the undesirable ones. In particular, a principal objective in accordance with the present invention is to provide a family of stents where the relative hardness/softness of regions of the stent can differ from other regions of the stent to provide additional patient comfort and resistance to compression forces. Exemplary embodiments provide a stent that is covered so as to provide certain predefined characteristics. In particular, a covered stent is provided that is coated internally such that the outer scaffolding surface of the stent has enhanced friction points while the internal surface exemplifies certain characteristics.

摘要： A device for reshaping a mitral valve annulus (25), said device being elongate and having such dimensions as to be insertable into a coronary sinus (24). The device comprises fixing means (22, 23; 22a, 23a) for fixing the ends of the device within the coronary sinus (24); anda shape changing member (20a; 7; 7a; 9) extending between the fixing means (22, 23; 22a, 23a). The shape changing member (20a; 7; 7a; 9) includes a plurality of adjacent structural cells. The device includes resorbable delay means (21 a; 8; 8a; 10) that in a first configuration retrains at least two of said plurality of adjacent structural elements in a first, relatively elongate state of shape (K; D; E) and wherein the delay means in a second configuration releases said at least two adjacent structural elements to assume a second, relatively shortened state of shape (K'; D'; E'), thereby reducing a length of the shape-changing member (20a; 7; 7a; 9). The delay means (21 a; 8; 8a; 10) moves from its first configuration to its second configuration upon resorbtion of the delay means.

摘要： A device, system, and method provides for lung size reduction by permanently collapsing at least a portion of a lung. The lung portion may be collapsed by obstructing the air passageway which communicates the lung portion to be collapsed. The air passageway may be obstructed by an obstructing member which precludes airflow in either direction or with a one-way valve which permits air to be exhaled from the lung portion while precluding air from being inhaled into the lung portion. In addition, a vacuum may be pulled within the lung portion to be collapsed for collapsing the lung portion and while the lung portion is collapsed the obstructing member may be placed in the air passageway to maintain the lung portion in a permanently collapsed state.
