    • A linear power amplifier comprises: a first digital predistorter (20 1 ) supplied with a digital transmission signal, for predistorting said digital transmission signal by adding odd-order distortions generated by use of a power series model to generate a predistorted signal; a first DA converter (31 1 ) for converting said predistorted signal from said digital predistorter into an analog predistorted signal; a first frequency upconverting part (33) for upconverting said analog predistorted signal; a power amplifier (37) for power-amplifying said upconverted signal; a frequency downconverting part (40) for downconverting a portion of the output from said power amplifier (37) to output a downconverted signal; a digital predistorter control part (50) adapted to extract, from said down converted signal, distortion components of the same odd orders as those of said power series model and to control coefficients of the corresponding odd-order distortions in said digital predistorter (20 1 ) in a manner to lower the levels of said odd-order distortion components. A pilot signal generator (12) is provided for generating a digital pilot signal; a second digital predistorter (20 2 ) is supplied with said digital pilot signal, for predistorting said digital pilot signal by use of a power series model to generate a predistorted pilot signal; a second DA converter (31 2 ) converts said predistorted pilot signal to an analog predistorted pilot signal; a second frequency upconverting part (34) upconverts said analog predistorted pilot signal by use of a predetermined frequency; and a combiner (35) combines the output from said second frequency upconverting part (34) and said analog predistorted transmission signal, and inputs said combined signal to said first frequency upconverting part (33). The digital predistorter control part (50) includes means for extracting distortion components of said pilot signal of predetermined odd orders and for controlling the coefficients of said second digital predistorter (20 2 ) based on said extracted odd-order distortion components of said pilot signal.
