    • The invention describes an extended redundancy system in a passive optical network PON, wherein each optical network terminal ONT of a group is connected via splitters and the optical distribution network ODN with two redundant optical line terminals OLTs, wherein each of the OLTs can receive the downstream signal via an additional feedback splitter to the input of the optical network sided splitter. This enables the OLTs to check the function of the connection between the OLTs and the splitters also when none of the optical network terminals is able to send an upstream signal to the OLTs, especially when all of them are switched off during the night.

    • It is described a method for optimizing a transmission path between a Mobile Terminal (140) and a Core Network (110) of a telecommunication network (100). The method comprises measuring a first Round Trip Time of a data flow along a first transmission path between the Mobile Terminal (140) and a first Point of Attachment (122) being coupled directly to the Core Network (110), measuring a second Round Trip Time of a data flow along a second transmission path between the Mobile Terminal (140) and a second Point of Attachment (124) being coupled directly to the Core Network (110), comparing the first Round Trip Time with the second Round Trip Time, and optimizing the transmission path based on the comparison result. It is further described a computer program for optimizing a transmission path between a Mobile Terminal (140) and a Core Network (100). Furthermore, it is described a Mobile Terminal (140) and a network element (120, 122, 124), which each comprise a data processor being adapted to control the above described transmission path optimizing method.
