摘要： A tool (10) for manipulating a sample of developmental cells like oocytes or embryos in a process of cryopreservation. The tool (10) includes an elongated stem (18) with a sample loading portion (24) connected at one end (20) and a manipulation portion (22) at the other end. The tool (10) also includes a sleeve (14) which is telescopically mounted onto the stem (18), with the manipulation portion (22) extending from the sleeve (14) out a first open end thereof and the loading portion (24) being extendable from the sleeve (14) out a second open end. The sample loaded onto the loading portion (24) can be easily retracted within the sleeve (14) for protection by a user pulling the manipulation portion (22) while maintaining the sleeve (14).

摘要： A test meter of the type which receives a disposable test strip and a sample of bodily fluid from a patient and performs an electrochemical analysis of the amount of an analyte such as glucose in the sample includes a receptacle (7) for receiving a container (10) in which disposable test strips are provided, and a mechanism for reading information about the disposable test strips that is affixed to the container. For example, calibration values can be applied to the container in the form of a machine readable bar-code, a magnetic stripe, a memory chip or as a resonant wire loop. By automatically obtaining calibration values from the container in which the strips are provided, the chances of using the wrong calibration information are greatly reduced. The container may also contain information readable by meter including the expiration date, and the number of test strips in the container.

摘要： A fluid collection, filtration, and storage device is described. The device has a first tube (20) with a closed first end, an open second end, inner tube-wall surfaces, and an internal diameter; a second tube (10) with a first end porously closed by a filter and an open second end and having an external diameter smaller than the internal diameter of the first tube (20), the second tube (10) further slidably contacting the inner tube-wall surfaces of the first tube (20) at the first end of the second tube (10) when the second tube (10) is inserted in the first tube (20); and a cap (30) adapted to seal the open second end of the first tube (20) and the open second end of the second tube (10) in a single closing operation while the second tube (10) is inserted into the first tube (20). The kit is particularly adapted for collecting and storing viscous biologic samples, such as saliva, in the inner second tube (10) after the sample has been mixed with a preservative or other substance initially located in the filter.
