    • A projection apparatus for generates a colour image (1), by projecting light on to a display screen (10). The apparatus (5) comprises a display processor (144) operable to provide a plurality of component signals (I R , I B , I G ), each of which component signals is representative of a different component of the image (1), a plurality of projectors (20, 22, 24) coupled to the display processor (144), each of the projectors (20, 22, 24) being operable to receive one of the different components (I R , I B , I G ) and to project light representative of the component on to the display screen (10), each projector (20, 22, 24) having an adjustment means for adjusting the relative position of the projected component on the display screen, a sensor (100, 200, 210) disposed to receive light from the plurality of projectors, and to generate in response to the light a measurement signal, and a convergence processor (120) coupled to the adjustment means and the sensor (100, 200, 210) and operable to arrange for the different components substantially to converge by adjusting the relative position of each of the components in accordance with the measurement signal. The display processor is operable to introduce a test signal into each of the different components (I R , I B , I G ) and each of the plurality of projectors (20, 22, 24) is operable to project a test projection (150, 160, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260) representative of the test signal, onto the display screen with the different image components (I R , I B , I G ), and the sensor (100, 200, 210) is arranged to receive the test projection, and to generate the measurement signal in response to the test projection. The projection apparatus can project the colour components, whilst contemporaneously performing an alignment whereby the three projected image components substantially converge.

    • A projection apparatus generates an image (1) by projecting light representative of the image (1) on to a display screen (10). The apparatus (5) comprises at least one projector (20, 22, 24) operable to receive a component signal (I R , I B , I G ) representative of a component of the image and to project light representative of the component on to the display screen (10), the projector having an adjustment means for adjusting the relative position of the projected image component on the display (10) screen in accordance with an adjustment signal, a convergence processor (120) coupled to the adjustment means and operable to adjust a relative position of the image component on the display screen in response to a the measurement signal generated by a sensing device (SD, SD') disposed with respect to the screen (10) in response to a test projection (150, 160, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260) received from the sensing device (SD, SD'), wherein the sensing device is operable to produce a measurement signal having a predetermined output value when the relative position of the test projection is substantially optimum, and the convergence processor (120) is operable to displace successively the test projection from a first position, by a predetermined amount, until the value of the measurement signal corresponds to the predetermined output value, the adjustment signal being set in correspondence with the relative displacement of the test projection (150, 160, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260) from the first position to the position at which the measurement signal is corresponds to the predetermined output value. The predetermined value may be a null value, zero or substantially close to zero. The convergence processor may be implemented in hardware because the detection of the null value facilitates detection of the optimum alignment position, in accordance with a simplified alignment process.

    • Fixed pattern noise of an analog memory is reduced. Transfer paths of an address selection signal (SL) between an address generation unit (10) and respective storage elements (21) for storing an analog signal are constructed to have a substantially uniform electric characteristic in driving the storage elements (21) by the address selection signal (SL) to such an extent that the output signal of the analog memory is free from fixed pattern noise. A buffer unit (50) for temporarily storing and outputting the address selection signal is provided between the address generation unit (10) and the respective storage elements (21), and the buffer unit (50) is constructed to have an output characteristic substantially uniform between the storage elements (21). Also, lines between the buffer unit (50) and the storage elements (21) are constructed to have substantially the same electric characteristic. In this manner, charge feed through noise of the respective storage elements (21) are made substantially uniform, resulting in suppressing the fixed pattern noise.

With this configuration, misalignments of the position of the beam spot and the phosphor stripes on the screen, which are caused for various reasons, can be suppressed, and an image display device is obtained, in which a deterioration of the image quality, such as color misalignments, does not occur.
