    • A tilt telescope steering column (20) comprises a bracket (34) pivotably supporting a housing (32) between first and second pivot limits. A tubular member (33) is located within the housing (32) and is axially movable relative to the housing. A tilt blocking mechanism (232) includes a lock plate (234) carried by the housing and movable to a position blocking relative pivotal movement between the housing (32) and the bracket (34). The lock plate is moved against a surface of the housing by wedge (272) to take up clearance between the lock member in its blocking position and the housing. A telescope blocking mechanism includes a lock pin (82) which is movable to a position blocking relative axial movement of the tubular member (38) and the housing (32). A cam member (342) is supported for pivotal movement about axis D by the lock pin (82). The lock pin (82) is moved away from its blocking position in response to the cam pivoting in a first direction. The lock plate (234) is moved away from its blocking position in response to the cam pivoting in a second direction opposite the first direction.
