    • The present invention provides an electric actuator motor (5) for controlling multiple linkages. The invention comprises a housing, a plurality of stator portions (14,15,16) within the housing wherein each of the stator portions (14,15,16) comprises laminated magnetic sections includes a plurality of stator poles. The invention further comprises a plurality of rotors (11,12) movable between the stator portions (14,15,16) wherein each rotor includes a plurality of rotor poles (21) comprising magnetic laminated portions positionable between nonmagnetic spacers (26) of the rotor. Electromagnetic means for moving the rotors (11,12) between the stator portions (14,15,16) are also included. The invention further comprises bearings (5') for guiding the rotors (11,12) as they traverse between the stator portions (14,15,16). The rotors (11,12) include posts (19,20) that are used for mounting the rotors (11,12) on a support ring (13).

    • A variable reluctance electric motor (30) includes a stator (32) having a plurality of axially extending inner teeth (32a) and a rotor assembly (31) rotatably supported therein. The rotor assembly (31) includes a shaft (40) having a plurality of rotor pole sub-assemblies provided thereon. Each of the rotor pole sub-assemblies includes a hub (41, 42, 43) secured to the shaft (40), a pair of annular rotor packs (46, 47, 48) secured to the ends of the hub (41, 42, 43), and an electromagnetic coil (55, 56, 57) is disposed loosely about the hub (41, 42, 43) between the two rotor packs (46, 47, 48). Each of the rotor packs (46, 47, 48) has a plurality of axially extending outer teeth (46a, 47a, 48a) formed thereabout which are disposed adjacent to the inner stator teeth (32a). The rotor pack teeth (46a, 47a, 48a) of each of the rotor pole sub-assemblies are angularly offset from one another, preferably by equal amounts. The electromagnetic coils (55, 56, 57) are engaged by the stator (32) such that the rotor assembly (31) is free to rotate relative thereto. The electromagnetic coils (55, 56, 57) are sequentially energized and de-energized so as to create sequential magnetic circuits between each of the rotor pole sub-assemblies and the stator (32). These magnetic circuits sequentially cause the angularly offset teeth (46a, 47a, 48a) of the rotor packs (46, 47, 48) to be attracted to the teeth (32a) of the stator (32), resulting in rotation of the rotor assembly (31) relative to the stator (32).

    • Disclosed are transverse and/or commutated flux machines and components thereof, and methods of making and using the same. Certain exemplary stators for use in transverse and commutated flux machines may be configured with gaps therebetween, for example in order to counteract tolerance stackup. Other exemplary stators may be configured as partial stators having a limited number of magnets and/or flux concentrators thereon. Partial stators may facilitate ease of assembly and/or use with various rotors. Additionally, exemplary floating stators can allow a transverse and/or commutated flux machine to utilize an air gap independent of the diameter of a rotor. Via use of such exemplary stators, transverse and/or commutated flux machines can achieve improved performance, efficiency, and/or be sized or otherwise configured for various applications.
