    • A method of cleaning and disinfecting a contact lens, comprising the steps of: preparing a disinfectant which is an aqueous solution containing an iodine-complex polymer, and a diluent which is an aqueous solution containing ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid and/or soluble salts thereof, and a nonionic surface active agent; mixing the disinfectant and the diluent to provide a mixed solution, such that an available iodine concentration in the mixed solution immediately after mixing is in a range of 0.01-50 ppm, and such that concentrations of the ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid and/or the soluble salts thereof, and the nonionic surface active agent in the mixed solution are in a range of 0.0001-1.0 w/v% and in a range of 0.01-1.0 w/v%, respectively; and immersing the contact lens in the mixed solution for cleaning and disinfecting the contact lens, resulting in gradual reduction of the available iodine remaining in the mixed solution, by the ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid and/or the soluble salts thereof.

    • An aqueous composition suitable for use as a high-retention sanitizer, especially on irregular and/or non-horizontal surfaces and surfaces on which water does not readily spread, a method for sanitizing a surface using the composition, and kits comprising components of the composition. The composition contains an organic peracid, preferably peracetic acid, or other antimicrobial agent, and a retention aid. The retention aid preferably is provided as a concentrate for admixture with the antimicrobial agent at point of use and comprises a mixture of a non-ionic surfactant, an ionic surfactant, an ionic surfactant, and optionally a water-soluble magnesium ion source; or a mixture of a biopolymer thickening agent and at least one surfactant, and optionally a water-soluble magnesium ion source. In either retention aid, the magnesium ion source stablilizes foams from the retention aids in hard water and maintains retention aidconcentrates in a liquid state at room temperature if one of the surfactants is sodium lauryl sulfate, or magnesium lauryl sulfate or mixture thereof. The composition is preferably applied as a foam to the surface of the object to be sanitized.

    • A solid cleaning agent particularly adapted to remove dirt, debris and pathogenic microorganisms from the fingertips to prevent or reduce auto-inocculation. The cleaning agent having a penetrability (as defined) of from 50 to 250 mm, a speed of dissolution (as defined) of less than 2 minutes and being of such a consistency that when the fingers of a dry human hand are pushed into the cleaning agent 30 mm and withdrawn sufficient cleaning preparation will adhere thereto to enable the hand of the user to be washed with the cleaning preparation adhered to the fingertips. The cleaning agent preferably is superfatted and contains antimicrobial agents to further reduce the pathogen population in the fingertip region. The cleaning agent is designed to act as a self-vaccination system facilitating the introduction of weakened microorganisms into the body, and to reduce the bio-electric current to the fingernail bed.
