摘要： An apparatus for detecting urea deposits in an exhaust pipe (12) of an internal combustion engine (10) is provided, where the urea is introduced into the exhaust pipe (12) in an aqueous urea solution via a nozzle (18). The apparatus comprises at least one radiation receiver (16) which, in use, is located within the exhaust pipe (12) downstream of the nozzle (18). The apparatus further comprises an electronic control unit (30) in communication with the receiver (16), wherein the receiver (16) communicates radiation data to the control unit which allows the control unit to establish whether deposits have formed within the exhaust pipe (12). A control valve (22) is also provided which controls flow of the solution to the nozzle (18) in response to signals from the control unit (30). A method of detecting urea deposits in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine is also provided, as is an automotive vehicle incorporating the aforementioned apparatus.

The heating system comprises a heating element comprising a receiving surface for receiving a reductant fluid and a second heating element, which may surround the first heating element. The second heating element may be a thermochemincal or thermophysical device. In a first mode of operation the second heating element is arranged to receive thermal energy from engine exhaust gas. In second mode of operation the second heating element transfers thermal energy to heat the first heating element.

摘要： Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems are known and are generally included in the exhaust systems of diesel engines in order to treat the exhaust gases of such engines. Such systems typically involve the introduction of a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into exhaust gas flowing in an exhaust passage of an engine. DEF dosing systems are limited by the amounts of DEF that can be delivered without deposits forming on surfaces of the aftertreatment system. A numerical model of a hydrolysis catalyst is provided. The model comprises a spatial model of a hydrolysis catalyst to be modelled, where the hydrolysis catalyst is divided into a plurality of discrete spatial units. For each of the discrete spatial units, values for a plurality of matter state parameters are determined.

A method of dosing the after-treatment device includes: allowing dosing of the first SCR device with reductant only when its temperature is within its the operating temperature range; and allowing dosing of the second SCR device with reductant only when its temperature is within its different operating temperature range; and reducing the level of dosing of the first SCR device when requiring DPF regeneration.
