摘要： An improved system and method for transmitting a multiplexed service stream over an error prone DVB-H channel. Media IP packets are priority labeled. For each time slice burst, the IP packets are grouped based upon the priority labels. MPE-FEC matrices are made for the different priority labels in each time slice burst. RSDT columns are computed such that the average service bit rate does not overshoot the maximum allowed service bit rate, and the protection increases with priority. The ADT and RSDT of the MPE-FEC matrices are then encapsulated into MPE-FEC sections.

Power savings are achieved when a mobile terminal in a digital broadcast broadband network does not constantly attempt to measure the signal strength of nearby cells. By determining cell parameters, such as size and carrier frequency, and also determining dynamic information, such as signal strength and mobile speed over time, the time until the next handover measurement is adjusted up or down. When a mobile terminal is moving towards a transmitter in a cell, the handover measurement interval may be lengthened, and when a mobile terminal is moving away from a transmitter, the interval may be shortened.

MPE datagram sections and, if forward error correction (FEC) is used, MPE-FEC datagram sections are transmitted in time-sliced bursts. Time slicing parameters specifying a minimum time between bursts and bit rate output of a receiving device time slicing buffer can be used to help improve power saving and improve quality of service.

The first and second pilot symbols have first and second sets, respectively, of allowed, forbidden, and active carrier frequencies. The second sets of carrier frequencies are formed by frequency shifting the respective first sets by a predetermined frequency. A receiving method is directed to frequency translating part of a first received pilot symbol by one carrier interval in a first direction, frequency translating part of a second received pilot symbol by one carrier interval in a second direction that is opposite from the first direction, and forming a correlation by multiplying the frequency translated parts of the first and second pilot symbols by complex conjugates of parts of the pilot symbols upon which frequency translation has not been performed, and summing the multiplication results.

Ll pre-signaling information makes it possible to receive the Ll signaling information, data link layer information, and notification data that may have configurable code rates and modulation. Therefore, Ll pre-signaling information can be thought of as signaling metadata (i.e., information about other signaling information). Ll signaling is divided into pre-signaling and signaling parts. The pre-signaling part includes parameters used for receiving the Ll signaling information. Ll pre-signaling signaling enables the receiver to receive the signaling itself (Ll signaling and data link layer information) by informing the receiver about the type of modulation, coding, and the like, used to transmit the Ll signaling, data link layer, and notification information.
