    • There is provided a wireless IC device capable of setting the size and radiation characteristic of a radiation plate irrespective of the impedance of a wireless IC chip.
      A wireless IC device includes a wireless IC chip (5) for processing a transmission/received signal, a matching inductance element (20) and a planar electrode (25) which are formed on the surface of a feeder circuit board (10) formed by a flexible dielectric, and a loop-shaped radiation plate (30) formed on the undersurface of the feeder circuit board (10). Both ends (30a, 30b) of the radiation plate (30) are coupled to a resonance circuit including an inductance element (L1) by electromagnetic field coupling. The wireless IC chip (5) is operated using a signal received by the radiation plate (30). A response signal transmitted from the wireless IC chip (5) is externally transmitted from the radiation plate (30).

    • There is provided a composite antenna, having a favorable radiation characteristics and favorable communication performance, that can be used in short distance communication as well as long distance communication.
      The composite antenna includes a dipole antenna (15) having a long shape, a loop antenna (25) having at least one pair of opposing end portions (26a, 26b), and a connection portion (27) that connects the dipole antenna and a point of the loop antenna at which the amplitude of a current flowing in the loop antenna becomes maximum. The dipole antenna (15) can perform long distance communication utilizing an electric field, and the loop antenna (25) can perform short distance communication utilizing a magnetic field. This composite antenna is used as a wireless IC device in RFID systems, by being provided with a wireless IC, or a high frequency module including a wireless IC, said wireless IC or the high frequency module being connected to the end portions (26a, 26b) of the loop antenna (25).
