摘要： A needle valve is formed by molding a resilient tip (200,220) to a rigid body (204) having a tip receiving cylindrical portion (206) or barrel which includes tip retaining means (208, 210, 212) for securing the resilient tip thereto. The tip (200,220) is then ground until the outer edge (216) of the barrel (206) is engaged to form a resilient single angle or simple conical tip (200) thereby to eliminate distortions which may be present in the molded tip (220). The tip retaining means may comprise either a socket (208) formed into the distal end of the barrel (206) or a mushroom-shaped bayonet projection (212) extending therefrom.

摘要： A check valve assembly having a reduced net impact upon hemolysis, where the valve assembly has an elongated valve body including an inlet port, an outlet port, and an internal channel communicating between the ports, with each port disposed about and generally aligned with a central longitudinal axis of the body. The inlet port includes an umbrella-type check valve, and the internal channel is defined by three annular wall portions: a first annular wall portion aligned generally perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis to form a valve seat, a second annular wall potion that is generally concave, and a third annular wall portion that is generally convex, with the first, second and third annular wall portions forming an adjoining and essentially continuously curved, contiguous interior surface which smoothly redirects fluid flow toward the central longitudinal axis of the body and the outlet port.

摘要： The present invention provides a medical coupling site (210) which is adapted to be directly attached to a standard male luer fitting. The coupling site includes a valve element (216) contained within a tubular housing (214). The housing (214) is provided with a threaded portion for engaging the threaded locking collar of a male luer lock whereby the male luer lock will be held in positive mechanical locking engagement with the coupling site (210). In addition, an exposed surface (249, 251) of the diaphragm (234) is formed with surface texturing to define a roughened surface (249, 251). The roughened surface (249, 251) reduces the surface friction between the diaphragm (234) and a male luer as the luer is inserted through the diaphragm (234).

The valve assembly includes first (30), second (32) and third (34) sealing members wherein the second sealing member (32) comprises a guide wire seal. The guide wire seal includes a plurality of lip members defining two pairs of diametrically opposed slits (54), and an aperture intersecting at least one of the slits. The aperture is adapted to sealing by engage a small diameter guide wire for presenting fluid flow out of the catheter introducer through the valve assembly, while the slits allow for the passage of a large diameter elongated member or catheter. Two pairs of diametrically opposed pre-load ribs (56) extend radially towards the aperture for pressing the lip members together in sealing engagement. A substantially spherical inner surface is provided for guiding the guide wire to the aperture.
