摘要： A method and apparatus for stitching a label to material, particularly to a quilted mattress panel, in which the material and the label are joined face side down rather than face side up. The label is held face side down with a clamp and a panel is held over the label by a clamp, and the two are joined by a sewing machine. The invention further includes a mechanism for activating the thread knife of the sewing machine at such a time that the bobbin thread only is cut. In a further aspect of the invention, a masking mechanism is provided for masking the electronic signals of the sewing machine that would otherwise cause the machine to reset at a normal needle height, so that a sewing operation can be stopped with a needle at a maximum clearance position. In a further aspect, pneumatic cylinders and linkage are provided for raising the needle and presser foot even further at the end of a stitching operation.

摘要： A method and apparatus for stitching a label to material, particularly to a quilted mattress panel, in which the material and the label are joined face side down rather than face side up. The label is held face side down with a clamp (20) and a panel is held over the label by another clamp (25). The label and panel are joined by a sewing machine (100). A mechanism is provided for activating the thread knife (151) of the sewing machine at such a time that the bobbin thread only is cut. A cutter and nipper (80) is provided for cutting and grabbing the thread section (81) on a side of the material facing the sewing machine. A masking mechanism is provided for masking electronic signals of the sewing machine that would otherwise cause the machine to reset at a normal needle height, so that a sewing operation can be stopped with a needle at a maximum clearance position. In a further aspect, pneumatic cylinders (362, 382) and linkage are provided for raising the needle (13) and presser foot (12) even farther at the end end of a stitching operation.

摘要： Sewing apparatus for stitching a side panel or a flange material to a top panel of a mattress sack. The sewing apparatus automatically pivots the mattress sack upon encountering a corner, and automatically positions the mattress sack for stitching along the next edge. In one embodiment, a pair of sleds (510, 512) is utilized to automatically guide the mattress sack through the sewing head (80) and to automatically position the mattress sack for proper pivoting. Other features include a detector (40a) for detecting when a corner has been reached to begin the pivoting at a fixed distance from the sewing machine to produce a properly rounded and symmetrical corner, and a correction wheel (30) to properly align the top panel with the side panel or underlying flange material. A further aspect includes a fabric flattener (90) for urging fill within the top panel toward a cut edge of the top panel.

摘要： Method and apparatus for aligning fabric as it is advanced in a prescribed direction toward a sewing machine (10) such as a double overlock seamer for stitching pants. Photosensitive devices (180) sense displacement of edges of upper (14) and lower (16) fabric plies relative to a desired alignment line. Error signals are produced when either ply edge is displaced from the desired alignment line. Friction wheels (30) (32) responsive to the respective error signals guide each ply toward the desired alignment line as it is advanced toward the sewing machine (10). Each friction wheel pivots about an axis perpendicular to the ply and is controlled by a stepper motor (84). Each friction wheel is movable between an operating position in which it is biased against the respective fabric ply, and a retracted position for insertion or removal of fabric. The pressure applied to the fabric ply by the friction wheel is adjustable. A centering device aligns each friction wheel with the direction of fabric movement toward the sewing machine when no fabric is present in the apparatus.
