摘要： Provided are: a prepolymer which is capable of forming a non-linear optical material that has excellent non-linear optical effect, heat resistance, withstand voltage and transparency; a curable material which contains the prepolymer; a coating composition which contains the curable material and a solvent; a non-linear optical material which is obtained by curing the curable material; an optical waveguide which uses the non-linear optical material; and a light control device which is provided with the optical waveguide. The present invention uses a prepolymer having a crosslinkable functional group, which is obtained by reacting one or more compounds (X) that are selected from the group consisting of compounds (X1), compounds (X2) and compounds (X3), a compound (Y) that is represented by formula (Y), a compound (Z) that has three or more phenolic hydroxyl groups, and an organic compound (B) that exerts a non-linear optical effect and has a reactive group.

摘要： A high isolation optical switch has a core surrounded by a clad layer. The core is shaped to have an input line and two output lines branching off from the input line through a node. Two heater elements are each disposed adjacent to each of the two output lines. One of the heater elements is selectively energized to heat one of the output lines to lower the refractive index thereof to such an extent as to make that output line inactive. The two output lines are each shaped to include a straight segment that branches off from the node. Each heater element includes a main strip that overlaps partially with the straight segment of the adjacent output line with respect to a horizontal projection plane on which the heater elements and the core project, and also includes a deflector strip that extends from the main strip along the node. Each of the deflector strips runs in a spaced relation with the node and in a generally parallel relation with an extension line of the straight segment of the non-associated output line with respect to the horizontal projection plane. The deflector strip acts to heat a part of the node leading to an inactive output line but to keep the other part leading to an active output line from being thermally unaffected, thereby deflecting the light out through the node for successfully directing it into the active output line.

A method for reducing propagation losses of a resonator device (10; 100;10') is also described.

摘要： The invention comprises a novel combination of microwave and photonic packaging to arrive a compact, self contained MZI modulator. The nature of the NLO polymer, that is, its large electro-optic coefficient reduces the drive requirements for the integrated power amplifier (202), allowing a small to medium power amplifier to be used. Microwave high density interconnect (HDI) pakcaging techniques allow the medium power amplifier to be fabricated into a small assembly, which can be mounted directly to the MZI substrate.
