摘要： @ Thermal regenerators are usually of massive dimensions or of the rotary type which though relatively small suffers from sealing problems. Small fixed bed regenerators cannot be used because they require frequent reversals from heating to cooling and vice versa and they are out of service during reversal. In the invention a sufficiently large number of fixed bed thermal regenerators 10 to 29 are used to allow some to be reversed while others supply the load. In this way reversal time becomes unimportant and the surface area to volume ratios of the packing material can be reduced so allowing small size regenerators to be used for a relatively large thermal load.

In a particularly preferred embodiment the horse radish peroxidase is coupled to an antibody to the substance to be assayed and thereby acts as the assay label in an immunoassay.

摘要： It is known that the tolerance to noise of data transmission systems carrying digital signals can be improved bv coding the signals before transmission. The present invention provides a further improvement by using a correlative-level code and non- linearly transforming the coded signals to reduce the range of possible values. Correlative-level coding may be carried out using a linear feedforward transversal filter 16 and an adder 17, and a modulo-m network 20 (where m need not be an integer) may be used for non-linear transformation. Additionally a subtractor 14 and a modulo-4 network 15 may be provided for precoding, while the range of signals by the use of subtractor 18 and a multiplier 19. By employing orthogonal signals detection may be simplified.

applying the gases to one side of a membrane permeable to the two gases, the other side of the membrane retaining a solvent for both gases and forthe electrochemical product,

Optionally, the said other gas is also determined, by measuring the current flowing at the first potential.
The one gas may be carbon dioxide. The other gas may be oxygen. The solvent may be dimethylsulphoxide.

摘要： It has been a problem to pellet seeds with inoculum of the beneficial VA mycorrhizal fungus. Hitherto, clay or soil pellets have been tried but they are difficult to adjust to a suitable moisture content and the pellets are too heavy, and there is a problem in placement of the seed so as to ensure that the radicle will grow through the pellet and thereby pick up the desired fungal infection. It has now been found that satisfactory pellets can be made using peat, preferably sphagnum moss peat, and a binder instead of soil and that even when the pellet is dried considerably the inoculum retains infectivity for at least 6 months, using sphagnum moss peat. The composition in uncompacted and compacted forms and a method of growing plant from seed are claimed. The invention is useful for improving the condition of poor soil, e.g. filled-in gravel pits or coal mine spoil tips.

摘要： Existing vaccines against swine dysentery are not very effective. It has now been found that an effective regime of vaccination comprises administering parenterally to pigs a priming dose of killed virulent or pathogenic T. hyodysenteriae effective to stimulate the immune response to the pig to a subsequent dose of a live avirulent or non-pathogenic strain of T. hyodysenteriae and at about the same time or thereafter administering this live strain orally. The invention provides a kit for use in such a method. The live strain is preferably NCTC 11628 deposited as a Budapest Treaty patent deposit.
