摘要： Disclosed is a method of producing an unrecrystallized wrought aluminum-lithium product having improved levels of strength and fracture toughness. The method comprises the steps of providing a body of a lithium containing aluminum base alloy; heating the body to a hot working or hot rolling temperature and hot working or hot rolling the body to a first product. The product is cold worked or cold rolled to a second wrought product and then reheated or reheated and hot rolled while avoiding substantial recrystallization thereof, the reheating or the hot rolling adapted to relieve stored energy capable of causing recrystallization during a subsequent heat treating step. The product is then solution heat treated, quenched and aged to provide a substantially unrecrystallized product having improved levels of strength and fracture toughness.

摘要： A snap-type cap for sealing against escape of gases through an opening in an end closure of a container having contents therein which dissociate a gas therefrom. The cap includes a seal portion to engage with a sealing lip around the opening in the container end to provide an initial low pressure seal and a second high pressure seal as progressively higher pressures within the container exceed the sealing limit of the initial low pressure seal. The cap may further include an opening portion adapted for contacting an opening panel in the container end and effecting an opening in the container by applying pressure against the opening panel through the opening portion. An improved easy open container end having a smooth sealing lip for cooperating with the cap for resealing and a method of making such an end are also disclosed.

摘要： An integrated process for automatically controlling the position of solidification of molten metal in the bite of rotating rolls of roll casting apparatus (10), the guage (9) of solid metal exiting the apparatus, and compensation for eccentricity in the rolls of the apparatus. The process includes a series of measuring steps that provide values indicative of solidification position (7), exit guage (9) and the frequency of roll eccentricity (8). The solidification position and gauge values are separately compared to reference values established for the position (13) and guage, with corrections being made respectively to the speed and casting gap of the rolls when differences occur between the measured and reference values. While such measuring and correcting steps are being performed the measured frequency of eccentricity is being employed (20) to cyclically change the roll gap to offset the effects of eccentricity on the gauge of metal exiting the mill.

摘要： Alumina gel is produced on a continuous basis in a stirred reactor into which is bubbled carbon dioxide to neutralize an aluminate solution feeding into the reactor. Careful control of the process parameters, including pH, residence time, temperature and gas flow rate, as well as the geometry of the reactor and other apparatus parameters, can result in the formation of preselected types of gel. When pseudoboehmite is formed in accordance with the invention, alumina gels can be formed with surface areas as high as 300 to 700 square meters per gram.
