    • An internal combustion engine includes: a cylinder block having one or more cylinders, a cylinder liner in a tubular shape disposed inside the cylinder; a piston reciprocating inside the cylinder liner and having a top land portion formed of an outer periphery of the piston sandwiched between a piston head and an uppermost ring groove; and a liner installation ring forming, inside the cylinder, a circular step portion protruding toward the inner periphery of the cylinder liner. The liner installation ring is disposed in the cylinder block or the cylinder liner in such a manner that the bottom face of the liner installation ring face to the uppermost portion of the cylinder liner. The liner installation ring is disposed at a position in accordance with the upper end position of the top land portion when the piston reaches a top dead center. The liner installation ring is set to protrude from the inner periphery of the cylinder liner in an inward direction at a length of 0.05 mm or more to 0.5 mm less.

      The inner peripheral protruding portions press the inner peripheral surface of the side rails.     • The present invention discloses a NOx sensor for accurately detecting the total concentration of nitrogen oxides in a measured gas without being affected by interference gases. The sensor comprises a gas treatment chamber 5 arranged at the prior stage of the gas detection chamber 3, an inorganic porous member 25 loaded in the gas treatment chamber, and a NOx conversion pumping cell 14,15 and/or an oxygen supplying pumping cell which supplies oxygen into the gas treatment chamber. When the measured gas is introduced in the gas treatment chamber, the interference gases contained in the measured gas are effectively oxidized by the supplied oxygen under the assistance of the catalytic activity of inorganic porous member. The total amount of the nitrogen oxides is measured in the gas detection chamber while NOx in the measured gas are converted into a single component (NO 2 or NO) by the NOx conversion pumping cell after the interference gases are oxidized.

    • The sensing unit (3) of a heating-type sensor is kept at a constant high temperature by a main heater (30) and an auxiliary heater (32). A leakage current caused by the deterioration of an insulating board (2) is absorbed by a guard heater. The sensing unit which can be kept at a high temperature, for instance 400°C, and a heat conducting insulating board or film (2) on which the main heater and auxiliary heater are provided closely to each other are included. Or, a leakage current preventive guard heater is provided adjacent to the auxiliary heater side between the main heater and the auxiliary heater. A bridge circuit (18) has the auxiliary heater on its one side and has a 1st resistor (12), a 2nd resistor (14) and a 3rd resistor (16) on the other three sides. A heating control circuit has an amplifier or a voltage follower (20) and an amplifier (24) whose reverse input terminal is connected to a series connection point between the 1st resistor and the auxiliary heater, whose non-reverse input terminal is connected to a series connection point between the 2nd resistor and the 3rd resistor and whose output terminal is connected to the control input terminal of the voltage follower. The amplifier controls a voltage applied to the bridge circuit and the main heater in accordance with output of the bridge circuit. A 2nd amplifier (52) controls the voltage at a connection point (50) to the guard heater (40) so as to be equal to the voltage of a connection point (13) to the auxiliary heater in accordance with the output or a 2nd bridge circuit (44) including the auxiliary heater and the guard heater (40).
